If Canon has sold over 40 million digital cameras that could have this E18 error, and if the error was experienced by the same percentage of users as the industry average (6%) for camera failures, then over 2.4 million cameras would have this error.I suspect less than 1% of Canon owners have had this problem. It's only noticable by the press, because Canon has sold so very many cameras. All other brands suffer the same issue if the lens can not retract, or gets misaligned. Usually not hard to fix, apparantly. I actually watched a smart Best Buy guy fix one with no tools after a display camera took a serious whack.

I have a 2 year old Canon Powershot S3 IS and has been used very little. Recently it started giving me the "Lens Error, Restart camera" message. I was really disappointed when canon gave me the price to repair it. If that was not enough of an insult, they said I could join the Canon Loyalty Program and get a refurbished replacement for $199. What a JOKE!!!!

Hello fellow photographers,
I bought another Canon product, one of many through the years. I have bought the older film cameras, digital cameras, newer photo printers and countless lenses from Canon.
But then I bought the Canon EOS 7D. I was ready to see some excellence in digital photography, because up until that point, I was not impressed with digital. Many of my friends had gotten into digital when the pixels were around 8MP or less. I shrugged and said that I was going to wait.
Well, I waited and finally in late 2010, I bought the 7D. Every time that I took itout to use it, the results were disappointing and very blurry. A friend of mine convinced me that it was my error and I just needed to use a tripod with it from then on. I put it away and forgot about it and just did not use it much, thinking that he was right.
I took it out of the closet and did some serious tests with many lenses. I realized that the camera was defective. I called Canon support and even had them walk me through yet another test. Sure enough, I had to send it back to Canon.
I waited a week and they finally sent me an email and said that it was out of warranty and that I had to pay $ 182.00 for repairs, without even looking at it.
I am so p----d off, I can hardly stand it. I am mad at myself for listening to some one else telling me that I needed to use it with a tripod only, but, I am mostly angry with Canon for passing that piece of junk off as a real pro camera!
Any ideas, or suggestions are welcome.
