Is COMODO blocking AVG updates? Should I get new FW?

Every time I update AVG 8, the update file shows up in the list of files to be reviewed. I've already added AVG to the list of trusted software vendors. Does this mean COMODO is preventing the update from being installed?

Should I get a different firewall altogether? I've heard about plenty of people having trouble with ZoneAlarm, but it's the only popular free one that I know of.

Turn OFF comodo temporarily and try to update avg. If it goes fine , then there is still some settting within comodo that has to be tweaked to allow avg get the updates. I havent used comodo , so i cant say more about comodo.

But apart from comodo and zone alarm , you may try the free pctools firewall. Keep it if you like it.

I did that and it appeared to update fine, but I don't understand why the update file appears in the the list of files to be reviewed when I've already told COMODO that I trust AVG.

That what they said on AVG forums:). I thought I'd try here before I go join another forum site.

Hi crazy4laptops,

I think I'd rather keep AVG and ditch COMODO. Haven't heard much about COMODO anti-virus.

the av part is simple and quite easy to use, its suspects anything new and notifies of all suspicious changes

Comodo internet security is currently protecting 3 of my main work computers.

Its self updating, safe, simple and gives alot more configuration options than avg

Thanks crazy,

I think I might try COMODO security suite next time this PC crashes (typical in this house), or when I get a different system for surfing (probably won't be too long).

:D Hi :

Comodo is relatively new to the antiVIRUS field, and what I heard a while back was NOT

encouraging ; I never see them submit their AV to any Independent Testers, which raises

a Quality Issue of their product . Would Never put their "Suite" on any computer of mine .

Posted Image Hi :
For my Win XP OS, I have been using the Sygate Personal for quite some time, even

though Symantec bought it a couple of yrs ago, then "abandoned" it . It has a "SetUp

Guide" at www.kotiposti.net/string/SPF_eng/SPFGuide.html .

If you're still having problems with Comodo, right-click on the Comodo icon at the bottom right of your monitor, and set both the Firewall Security Level and Defense + Security Level to Training Mode, and see if that fixes the AVG block problem.

mcbarker,

Hey, that worked! Should I leave it in Training mode or switch it back to something else? The different modes aren't quite clear to me.

Leave it in Training Mode for a few weeks, then try changing the Firewall Security Level to Safe Mode, and Defense Security Level to Clean PC Mode+. By then, the program should know enough about your computer work habits to where it will be minimally annoying (installing new programs, etc).
