Hi everyone!

I've been considering whether to uninstall Trend Micro AV and install Avast! to take its place. I was going to wait until April next year when my subscription is up, but I'm getting more and more annoyed at Trend Micro because it takes so long to load every time I start/restart my computer. So here are some questions:

#1 - Is there a specific uninstall tool for TMAV that I should use?

#2 - Should I install Avast! before I uninstall TMAV so my computer stays protected while uninstalling?

And here are some questions about another program:

What do you know about Spybot Search&Destroy?

If you use it, what has your experience been like with Spybot S&D?

Hey Adama. There is not a tool to uninstall Trend Micro you can just remove it from add/remove. No remove trend micro and the install avast. All antivirus or w.e you can remove on add/remove even norton but nortons the only one that SOMETIMES run into trouble which is why they have a norton removal tool Not having antivirus for a couple minutes is not going to kill your computer. As for spybot ived used it in the past but its not as good as superantisypware now, spybot has sort of gone down in ratings and its detection is just not as good as superantispyware in my opinion.

About #2, I don't know if there would be any conflicts, but just in case, I would just disconnect from the internet then uninstall Trend and install Avast. When your done, connect to the internet and you should be safe through that process. I'm sorry I don't know about anything else you mentioned there.

Hi Lil,

I guess I have a tendency to be overly-cautious, but it's good to know that I can just uninstall it by going to my Add/Remove programs.

Thanks for your comment. :)

Hi number6,

Oh, I see what you're saying. However, if I disconnect from the Internet before doing all of this, I won't be able to download Avast! right after I uninstall TMAV.

Hi Adama,

Download the setup file for Avast onto your hard drive before you do anything else. Does that make sense?

Hi number6,

Yes, but I think that instead of downloading it to my HD, I should download it to my Desktop. Then I can go from there after the uninstall. That kind of feels better for me.

Hey sweetie!!

Yes, you should download "everything"you need then just disconnect or even better

shut off your router this way it will reboot when you turn it back on again. This does a whole

lot of good to your connection.

today there are less Viruses that are going around so a good AntiVirus is recommended

BUT, there are allot more Malware, ( Trojans , fake antispyware, ect.) so, a Very Good

AntiSpyware is the norm. As you can see by my thread there are allot of good ones to choose from.

As for SpyBot, well , I would rather you choose something else. MalwareBytes or SUPERAntiSpyware,

Something along those lines. There is the fact that your AntiSpyware would have to have REAL TIME

SHIELDS, meaning you would have to buy to get this service.

Anyway, I'll talk to you more later, I have errands to run and see If Dad is doing OK.

Hi Flash,

Yeah, I understand about the AntySpyware. For right now I'm going to keep my Webroot SpySweeper, which just got updated to a newer version today. I'm subscribed until May, 09. So when the time comes, I just won't sign up for another year and then I'll be able to use the $ to purchase the SUPERAntiSpyware Professional, with all the bells and whistles.

So, how come you don't like Spybot S&D? Is it too agresive? Or perhaps you gotta be a whiz at it to be able to use it???

Okay! Looks like the questions continue to come up.

LOL :^0

:D Hi :

The "general" consenus is that Spybot's quality has NOT kept up with the "newer"

antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN programs, like SUPERAntiSpyware & Malwarebytes

Anti-Malware ; for me, I could not "understand" its "Scan Results" plus IF to use

their "TeaTimer", "SDHelper" and "Immunization Feature" raised doubts .

Hi SW,

I went to their website and printed as much info on it as I could, and I couldn't understand the TeaTimer function.

Thanks for your input.

i really don't think you need the pro superantisyware. Avast real time protection would be good enough so i would just stick with the free superantispyware if i were you

Hi Lil,

But Avast! is an antivirus software. Shouldn't my antispyware program be upgradable?

I do have the SUPERAntispyware on my computer right now. Usually I get the updates on Friday night, and then I run the scans afterwards, of both SAS and MBAM.

Avast has built in antispyware protection as well as do many so theres no need really for another realtime protection antispyware protection. Just using free one would be good enough

Oh you're kidding! Avast! is a Suite app, with built in Antispyware?

I thought it was just an AV. I don't really know if I like Suites - whole packages - it seems like they're more trouble than not.

Posted Image Hi :

I know of no one "connected" with Avast that considers it a "Suite" ; however, it would be

wise to get "acquainted" with Avast by reading www.avast.com/eng/avast[u4[/u]home.html] .

All, IF not all, of the "regular" Volunteer "Helpers" on the Avast Support Forums, including

me, recommend having at least 1 antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN program like Malwarebytes

Anti-Malware, SUPERAntiSpyware, etc . What is known as antiVIRUS companies are

"adding" antispyware/antitrojan "detection" and some of the antiSPYWARE companies are

"adding" antivirus "detection", so the security companies are going "hybrid" .

Hi SW,

Thanks for the great link to avast, I have saved it to my faves. I did read through some of it though, and it is easy to read.

I was going to print the instructions to read more about it, but since it has 81 pages I decided against it.

One question though: Why do they want you to "register" your product and then "insert a key" before you use it, if it is a "free" program?

:D Hi :

Not definitely sure of ALL the Reasons Avast requires "registration", but recall One time I

think I saw One of the Developers say it was to know HOW many Servers they needed to

provide the Updates . IF "register" is for the FREE Version, it contains a "Declaration" that

it is for non-commercial AND Home Use ONLY and since you seem to have a Graphics

business, I do not know IF you could ethically use the FREE Version !? Another reason

MAY be cause there are some fraudulent Sellers of Avast and occasionally some of their

"Buyers" report problems that we inform them that the legitimate Avast is NOT responsible

and unable to "fix" .
