Hi Willlfc. Can you detail the exact error message, or at the very least, include a screen shot of the error message? If you choose to include a screen shot but do not know how to do that, please follow the steps within this Document:

Hi, As mph stated the information provided was a bit sketchy. That having been said, you may need to go back and reconfigure your dial up. Personally, I would first just uninstall the ISP software and reinstall it and see if that helps. You should also check your modem driver to be sure they are up to date as well. coastie65

Find your discs/ or go to your manufacturer's website and look up the model that you have. To access your device manager
(windows xp) Start > control panel > system
click on the hardware tab > device manager
from there locate your modem (make sure you have the proper drives downloaded first because your reinstalling the modem). You can right click from there look for updates etc. If you happen to uninstall it and can't seem to find it again go to device manager and look for yellow question marks. It signifies that your computer recognizes hardware but doesn't have the proper drivers installed.

It sounds like your modem has gone south.

Do you have some other device using a serial or COM port?

Try uninstalling it in Device Manager. Restart and let it redetect and reinstall that way. I just had one last week with the same error messages that was fixed by doing just that. If that doesn't work, I would buy a new modem. They are only about $20.
