This is just a heads up to those who have faithfully been using TurboTax for doing tax returns. Starting with the new version for 2008 taxes, there will be a $9.95 charg for all returns beyond the first one. If you are filing electronically that may be a good deal, but if you prefer to print then subsequent returns are printed with a watermark that cannot be filed with the IRS. The watermark is removed if you pay the $9.95 ransom demanded by Intuit. The following message from Inutuit was in response to my question about this new practice:
bq. "Thank you for contacting TurboTax Customer Service & Support. I understand you are contacting us today regarding the preparation fee for 2008 TurboTax. With the purchase of 2008 TurboTax one free e-file and preparation is included. For every return printed or e-filed there after there is a $9.95 preparation fee. This preparation fee also includes an e-file. When e-filing last year there was a $17.95 fee. So right there you will see a savings of $7.95 over last year. When printing an official return this year there is also a $9.95 preparation fee. You can still print a non-official return (it will have a watermark) free of charge. I trust this information will help. Thank you John for contacting Turbo Tax Technical Support it was my pleasure to assist you today and I hope you have a wonderful day."
It just seems to me that Intuit continues to squeeze it customers with each of it's product lines, Quickbooks, Quicken & TurboTax.
