Your monitor is obviously plugged into a card, which in most cases is better than the onboard graphics chipset. The problem now is to determine what board is in there. If it is plugged into a white slot, then it is PCI and if the slot is brown, then it is AGP. We then have to determine, if the card is enough to run that game, as it is a newer game and uses more resources than the older games, and takes a little stronger hardware. coastie

But it is plugged into a card. And the card is brown, then it only can be AGP video card.
But then what is the problem? s:

Hi kevin, Ok. If it is plugged in to a brown slot above the white ones, then it is AGP. Ok, to determine what is in there click on START>CONTROL PANEL>DISPLAY, then cick on the settings Tab then Advanced. You should see a tab with your card type . In my case, it says GeForce 8600 GT. you can also do this through the Device manager by checking the Display adapter. coastie

My card is a READON 9250/9200 Series AGP (0x5961)
What will you use that for?

Hi Kevin, Just wanted it to check the specs. OK, From all indications, your system should handle the game with no problem. That brings us right back to the Game.exe message again. I will need to do a little more research, as I have been bouncing around here like a rubber ball lately. I will post as soon as I can. You have done well getting the info I needed, thanx, coastie

OK. Have you tried Uninstalling and reinstalling the game ? If not then do so, if you have then i want you to download and run the following: www.CCleaner.com . It is FREE. Also check the disk and make sure it isn't scratched or dirty. coastie

Hi Kevin, We are going to run this drill again. Click Start>RUN then type in dxdiag then click OK. At the bottom of the list, it will give the version of DirectX that is running. What is it ? If it is DX9c then you are fine and on to the next step. I want you to completely uninstall the game and run CCleaner, Including the registry cleaner, second one on the list. Once this is done then reinstall the game, follow the instructions and prompts. let me know the outcome when you are finished. I also want to know what is showing when you check the DX version. coastie

d3dx9 sounds like a directx error... possibly.

You may have cleaned out your PC but I'm unsure if you've actually done a COMPLETE uninstall of the game, deleted all left over folders and perform a fresh install again.

I'm out of suggestions.

Hey techie, that is why I suggested he do an uninstall and then running CCleaner plus the registry option to be sure all the folders were cleaned out. coastie

Hi Kevin, First, I edited your post because of the profanity. We can get the message without that, and there some community standards. Ok, now to the problem, if this is a new game and you have not played it before, and I am talking brand new out of the box, I suspect you have a bad copy. This does happen, not often, but it does. I have one that I was never able to play ( Diablo II ). If you have the receipt, you should be able to exchange it. You have done all that can be done if it was any other kind of problem as far as I can see. I know it's frustrating, but that seems to be the only thing left. A game.exe message indicates that there are some files missing, and apparantly in this case they are not being loaded from the disk. If you have the game loaded and the disk in the optical drive, click on my computer and see if it shows the game disk. This is a long shot, but it could be an early sign of a failing optical drive, and that computer is a few years old. coastie

I have exchanged it to a new one and it's not a copy. I was home at my friend and I have installed it at his computer where I could play it. I could play Resident Evil 4 home at my friend but not home at me. I'm totally confused now... s:

Hi kevin, OK. This thing started out as a mising DirectX file which you have taken care of. You said that you do not have sound. Initially I didn't think this would be an issue, but I am coming to the conclusion that may well be, as the game may be looking for the audio that isn't present. You have done everything else that could be done, and that is about the only other thing that hasn't been addressed. I take it your friend has sound on his computer. As I had said, the Game.exe message you got was an indication that the game couldn't find some files. Most likely it is the audio files and apparently, they have to be present. That is about all i can think of, as we have been down every other road. Sorry about the frustration, but sometimes things are not so easy. coastie

Hey, you've helped me a lot. You've spent a lot of time on this discussion and I can only thank you for your great knowledge.
Now I will format my computer and have installed that sound.

Ok Kevin, i know exactly the error you are getting because i got it too. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM OR VIDEO CARD OR WHATEVER THESE OTHERS SAY. if you have still not been able to fix the problem, then follow these few very simple steps to get your game working. this is what i did, and it worked fine after that. Basically your WINDOWS/SYSTEM folder is missing the D3DX9-30 dll file that it needs to play the game. here is how you get it, and install it...

1) download the file HERE at this link: http://www.dll-files...op.php?d3dx9_30

2) aftyer you download it, it will probly be in a ZIPPED folder. you must EXTRACT that file to your WINDOWS/SYSTEM folder. Hit the "Browse" button when it askes you where to extract the file to and choose in this order 1)MY COMPUTER-->LOCAL DISK C--->WINDOWS---> then find the "SYSTEM" folder and click on that and THEN hit "EXTRACT". This will place that missing file in your WINDOWS/SYSTEM folder and you will be able to play the game after that. It sounds hard, but its actually very simple to do. let me know if this works.

Hi Timmy and welcome to the forum. If you had read the posts, you would have seen that he in fact had reinstalled DirectX 9c and it took care of that particular error message. Due to the fact that most of these games require some kind of audio, and he didn't have any audio, the game was looking for files that didn't exist. I haven't heard back since his last post, so don't know how things are going. He was able to play it on his friends computer WHICH DID HAVE AUDIO, but not his WHICH DID NOT HAVE AUDIO. After exhausting everything else that could be thought of, this was about the last thing left. The files you mentioned were installed on the last reinstall of DirectX. coastie65

Hi Timmy, You could be right about that and I'm not discounting the possibility. His initial message was the d3dx930dll error. After he downloaded and installed DirectX, he no longer got the message. When he tried to play the game he then got a Game.exe thing, as it couldn't locate some files needed to play the game. After chasing down every avenue we could think of, it came down to the possibility of the lack of audio and audio files. He had tried to put the d3dx930dll file into the game folder. had him completely uninstall the game run CCleaner to make sure it was clean, and then reinstall Direct X 9c and the game. Then this other problem surfaced. Anyway, I haven't heard from him, so he's either playing the thing or just disgusted and frustrated. I did some research, and as you stated you can down load that file separately, although it is part of Direct X and doesn't always load. I am reasonably sure we got him over that hurdle, but just in case, your post is there and thanks for the input. coastie
