I am cleaning an XP machine for a friend. I thought I got rid of all the viruses on the box, but now IE-7 everytime I change the privacy/security settings under tools to default in IE and hit apply, it seems to work. When i close IE and re-start IE the settings go back to vey low privacy and custom settings. Its like the registry changes are being blocked. Anyone now how to fix this and what the registry entry should look like for this?
I have RegCure, but everytime I run it, it find sthe same 117 errors and cleans them over and over. Hijackthis finds nothing, Spyhunter no longer works (if that program is even good?) and my Avast anti-virus finds nothing.

Hey JJ!!
Welcome to PCWorld Community!
OK, before we scan with more security apps. , once you have clicked on the
"Apply" , do you also click on the "OK". Simply clicking the Apply will only save the
changes for the seesion. If you click on the OK this should save the changes
until you change them next time.

If this doesn't work then, download , install and run both of these security apps.
They are free and compatible with XP and Vista.
MalwareBytes AntiMalware .
After installation AND before scanning with a Quick Scan, PLZ click on the
Up-Date tab and up-date to the latest definitions.
SUPERAntiSpyware .
Again , after installation ,PLZ click on the Up-date button on the bottom left hand
corner to up-date to the latest definitions and then do a Quick Scan.
If they find any infections PLZ post back with the names of the infections. You can
retrieve the log files from within the applications.
In MalwareBytes go to the Logs tab and click on the log corresponding to the date
which you want to view. Copy and Paste in your next post.
In SUPERAntiSpyware click on the Preferences Button on the right hand side
and retrieve the same. Copy and Paste in your next post.
