Is there a way for me to talk with someone who has a Yahoo! instant messaging account without my creating a Yahoo! account for myself? Are there other services that are compatible with Yahoo!?

You don't have to use Yahoo Messenger to communicate with your Yahoo friends but you MUST have a yahoo account in order to sign in.

I use Trillian for my needs but you could try meebo.com

I saw this thread yesterday and meant to comment, but got distracted with something else.

I think that you really have to have an account with Yahoo, but IDK for sure.

Yea.. you need a yahoo account in order to register on the system... you don't need to download yahoo by any means I use pidgin.. however you don't even need to download anything yahoo has a webmessanger. You will need an account to sign in though.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid that I would need an acount, but I'm relieved that I don't need Yahoo!'s software.

lol np, I just remembered that you could do that. It was a bit ago both upgrades of yahoo and windows live advertised the ability at the same time, I figure they made some sort of deal. I'm not sure of the full extent of everything though cause I know you can message people on ICQ from aim etc.
