Good morning,

I have a trojan virus on my computer and Malwarebytes says it is in my AT&T virus protection. The computer won't come up past the start screen. The AT&T virus protection logo is on the screen and the Malwarebytes logo tries to start, so I can delete the virus, but the AT&T comes up first. So, the whole computer just locks up. Can't even Control, Alt, Delete. Nothing. Is there a way to run the Malwarebytes in safemode? Or do you have another idea?

Thanks,

MidnightsMaMa

I'm sure you'll get plenty of help, but all I can say is try it in Safe Mode.

Hi Midnights, As was suggested you might want to try and see if you can't run it in Safe Mode. Barring that, you could try and do a System Restore to an earlier time. coastie

How do I start my computer in safe mode? When I do that, will I be able to run the malwarebytes virus program?

Thanks

Hi, I don't really know until you try. When you power up, start tapping the F8 button at the first screen. When the menu comes up, you can opt for either last know good configuration Or Safe Mode ( There are other options as well). Last known Good configuration will sometimes work and allow you toget back into the swing of things, but I would opt for Safe Mode and run the scan. coastie

Posted Image Hi :
There has been very recent Postings on the Malwarebytes Support Forums of their

"Database 1469" Update causing numerous False-Positives, which are slowly being

"corrected" with more recent Updates, so I will assume the "Detection" you experienced

falls into the same "category" . It seemed strange to me that there would be malware in

your dubious "AT & T Virus Protection" ( AT & T does NOT make virus protection software,

but buys or leases it from another company ) . Your Post implies you have Malwarebytes

"Professional" version, that provides "real-time" protection ; is this true ?

P.S. Your "situation" seems similar to what is discussed at

www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8167 !?

Hello SpiritWind,

I've been trying for hours to copy the image of my "print screen" showing my AT&T Security Suite for you. But, I don't know how to get past copying it to paint, and saving it as a jpeg. Then I can't figure out how to get it here!!! I wish I did know how. :_|

But, anyway I have the dilema taken care of now. I do have AT&T virus protection, firewall and adware protection. It came with my AT&T broadband. I don't know where they get their programs, but everything I have is AT&T Security Suite on it. As for my Malwarebytes program, I do not have the professional edition. It is for individuals.

After opening my computer in safe mode, I scanned with my AT&T anti-virus program and it put the culprit in quarentine. As for the Malwarebytes site, I did go there and read what you wanted me to read. Sounds similar...but I had to do a "hard-shutdown" on my computer 3 times and it never would release the notice of the trojan nor let me start the computer. So, that is why I went into safe mode and restored my computer back to Friday and started running the AT&T virus-scan on the whole computer.

The whole ordeal was odd. But thank you for your input.

Have a great week....

Hi Midnight,

What kind of OS (Operating System) do you have on your computer? If it is Vista I can give you instructions on how to take a Snip of your screen and how to post it here.

Meanwhile, here's [a document|d-1481] that'll give you some information on how to take a screenshot.

OFF TOPIC

Great avatar, BTW. :^0

Posted Image Hi :

Now that you told me the name of your AT & T program is "Internet Security Suite", I was

able, by doing Google "Searches", to find some interesting Info . Part of the research is

that the AT & T program is actually provided by "Radialpoint", a Quebec company and a

visit to their website had me confirm as to WHY people should NOT use "Security"

provided by an Internet Service Provider . I have never heard of this company and they do

NOT submit their program to INDEPENDENT RESEARCHERS to Test the effectiveness

of their program, so I would assume it is NOT a Top Performer . My Bridge partner uses

AT & T as her ISP, but does NOT use their "security", perhaps based on the Info I provide

to her . For Info on Quality computer security, see what I wrote at

forums.pcworld.com/docs/DOC-1141|d-1141 . IF you do decide on "switching", Info on

completely removing the AT & T "Suite" MAY be difficult, based on what I discovered

during the Google Search at

Seems like the AT & T "Suite" is as bad as having bad malware on a computer !?

Concerning Malwarebytes Anti-Malware : it comes in either a "FREE" version, which does

NOT have "real-time" protection or a "Professional" version, which does have that

"protection" . Individuals can have either One .

Hello Adama,

I captured the picture with my print screen and I have the picture already saved as a jpeg in my pictures.....I just can't get it to this screen. When I try to copy and paste it here, it will copy alright, but when I get to this screen, it won't paste. I tried to use the insert/edit image button (above) and it doesn't work either. When I try to upload the image, nothing at all happens. Can't even leave the screen to get to the picture or anything. So, I have the picture, just can't manuver it to this spot. Thanks for your input.

Verizon offers one of those "Security Suites" as well, but I told them No Thanks. I prefer to stay with a known performer when it comes to that stuff. coastie

Hi again, Midnight,

Here's a very useful document|d-1144] from one of our Mods, MPH, which explains in detail how to upload pics to the forum.

Hmmm.... I just thought of something... A few weeks ago some of us were having problems uploading stuff to the forums also, and it was all because we didn't have an updated Adobe Flash Player. When was the last time that you updated your Adobe Flash Player?

Here's the link for [Adobe Flash Player version9
. There is a later one, v10, but a lot of people are having problems with that new one, so many of us decided to uninstall v10 and reinstall v9.

Go ahead and click on that link and download it to your HD. Then come back here and try to upload the screenshot you took, see if that makes it work better for you.

(And, here's the link to the thread where we posted the problems we were having, it has a bunch of good info in it.)

HTH :D

ps - You still didn't tell us what OS you have.
