Too damn bad that SOE doesn't advertise EverQuest II enough. Darn good MMO and for those that like that type of MMO (orcs and elves, etc.) it's a lot different than WoW. There IS room in the MMO world for more than WoW but you'd not know it by SOE's lack of advertising.

L4D is awesome! At EdgeGamers we play mostly Steam games since they last so long. You can still play CounterStrike which to me is amazing.

We call WoW PfA or Pokemon for Adults.

But all of the First Person Shooters play so much better on the PC than console. I can't for the life of me figure out why people waste money on consoles...

I agree about EQ2's latest.
UNLIKE WoW, buying the latest release gets you EVERYTHING. Notice WoW Battle Chest in the Top 10? That's because Wrath of the Lich King is completely useless without also having to buy the original WoW and The Burning Crusade. So, for a newcomer an up to date WoW is $70.

Although most newcommers to wow would only require the basic azeroth, burning crusade for all of it so thats 30? or so. 20 if you didn't mind not being a blood elf or a dranie till level 60. Wrath is designed mainly for level 70's and above stuff a newcommer wouldn't need for a while. The original everquest had I'm not sure about 10 expansions if you wanted the base races.

I did note WOW's Battlechest package in the top 10 and figured that was why. I do have the original package but since I personally found the game and moreso the community, on several servers I tried, booooring and rather childish I stopped playing WOW and only went back once, for a month. I'm not your average aged gamer, female and 51 yrs. old, but I've been gaming since I had a Pong console and started PC gaming in the early 80s. In the MMO world I prefer the fantasy stuff and also enjoy the story, lore and roleplay as much as the mechanics of the game. I'm NOT into level, level, level nor immature drama (whatever the player's age). Grinding leaves me COLD. I've better things to do with my leisure time and I DO enjoy more in life than gaming (GASP!) I honestly have compassion for those that spend ALL their free time in a MMO or with any game. Variety is the spice of life as my Dad says.

EQ2's expansion DOES included EVERYTHING so it's a real good deal at $40 USD for anyone new to the game or someone who hasn't played in awhile and wants the expansions. Unlike WOW's latest, EQ2's has something for every level really. But EQ2 is a different beast than WOW and IMO always will be unless SOE screws it up totally. And I don't discount that ever happening either. Currently I'm not thrilled with a few things they're doing with the game but then again, that's just one person..me. All in all, for me, it's a much better game experience.

As for consoles, I just didn't find any reason ... yet... to jump into the current generation other than my DS. And now the current generation is getting a little old too although that does mean a lot of titles and lower hardware prices, at least for some of them. The PS3 still doesn't seem like a good value to me, other than LBP is interesting. But I've never been a HUGE console fan anyway. I loved my NES, my Atari 2600 and still enjoy some retro gaming now and then. My original Game Boy traveled the world with me. My XBox was fun but not enough fun for me to go to the 360. All in all, when I found PC gaming I was always more enticed by that than consoles. I do, like most PC gamers, see that the market has shrunk and I can even understand why. But until I find a real compelling reason to go totally console I'll stick to my PC and wait for that awesome deal / killer game / compelling reason to get a console.

And you've hit another aspect of WoW that really ticks me off. Just about everything Blizzard does to "improve" the game is geared only toward those who have maxxed out their toon. Sure, this may be the highest percentage of players - but it's by no means all of them. What, if I don't have a 60 or 70 then I'm not important to them?

Everyquest II has had expansions, and for the most part I did without them. But their lastest release has me rethinking that. It includes every expansion ever released plus the new one in a single package for $40. This is why I'm surprised that it's not in the top 10, and agree that this may be due to poor advertising.

The only compelling reason I can see for consoles is that when it comes to gaming... when you walk into a game software store, XBox gets a huge wall, PS3 gets a huge wall, Wii gets a huge wall... while PC's get a half a dusty shelf in the back of the store.

I rarely go into a store that sells video games of any sort. 99.9% of all games I've purchased in the past 8-10 years, maybe longer, have been via phone or online. Thus this is not a complelling reason for me to purchase a new generation console. So far, for me, there's been enough PC games to grab and hold my interest and no console only game, other than my DS stuff which I enjoy, that I just could NOT do without playing. So far anyway.

Beyond EQ2 I'm currently enjoying Spore, despite the DRM crapola I did buy it and love it as I've loved most of Will Wright's stuff, and I'm STILL having fun with TES:Oblivion package. I also enjoy Half Life 2 and look forward to the next "installment" ... and so on. Since I do other things with my abundant leisure time (and yes, I'm being honest, I'm blessed with a lot of free time in my life) all that, my DS stuff and the occasional flipping on of my Xbox or this fun retro Atari 2600 console I bought a couple years ago, that's enough video gaming to keep me quite happy.

If you'are still thinking about the latest EQ2 expansion package I'd suggest you give it a try. Like you pointed out, it's a damn good package deal and the game is still quite a bit of fun, IMO, and right now they're having their Frostfell festivities, which are always good fun.
