I am going off the deep end trying to get my PC to play dvds or cds, also I bought a new USB flash drive so I can save my family pictures and I get the same message, Access id denied. I am my computer administrator, so I have administrations rights, e lock is working ok, I do not have the device locked. In device manager it says all is working properly. My PC is barely a year old, it is a Acer Veriton 2800 I have Windows XP Professional. Powerdvd software Please help, I have tons of family pictures that I want to save either to disc or to a stick and I can't. Regards, Ozpodge :(

Hi OzPodge and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D
I condensed the title of this Discussion to give a better perception of what your issue is. In a normal circumstance, the D: drive is the CD or DVD drive. Additionally, you mentioned that you have an elock application installed in your computer. Without more information, I have several initial ideas as to what is going on:
- The CD or DVD that you are trying to save these files to is not blank
OR
- The CD or DVD drive is not working properly
OR more likely
- The elock application is preventing access to any USB port or optical drive
Please answer all of the following questions:
- Did the elock application come pre-installed or did you install this application?
- Are you trying to drag and drop these pictures into the D: drive or are you using a specific application? (You mentioned PowerDVD which is primarily used to make DVD formatted discs and not necessarily picture DVDs)
- Do you have the same problem if you connect the flash drive in any of the computer's USB drives?
- Can you connect anything into the USB drive and get it to work?
- If you have access to another computer, does that computer recognize the flash drive?

I can download pictures from my camera using any of the usb ports, so it does accept downloads from there
as far as dragging and dropping pics to powerdvd, I just uninstalled powerdvd software so I will not be able to use that anymore, I will aquire a new software today for dvds.
as far as using a blank recordable cd, yes I tried that, the drive spins for a moment then stops. This happens with any disc, a music cd (I have tried several) or any dvd.
What is interesting is that since I have been working on it, I now can eject a cd or dvd, I couldn't do that for a long time,

I am at the point to where I want to do the acer recovery thing with ALT and F10 (because I have no cd) but pressing these keys does nothing?? It wouldn't work with the cd anyway because the cd drive only spins for a sec. then stops. Is there some kind of hardware reset button somehwere?

I dunno, try to get get the acer recovery thing to work before you muck around any more.
Be aware that if you use the acer recovery thing ALL you user files and stuff you have added will be lost.
Are you trying to start the acer recovery thing before windows starts up or are you trying it while windows is running??

If you decide to scrap that acer and build a new one out of it here is what i recomend for parts.
This build will be relatively cheap but quite hyper wizbang.
You can see it at this link.
New build for ozpodge

Thanks Snorg! You definately ROCK!
GREAT NEWS! I actually found the darn windows xp home edition disc!!! I reinstalled windows xp now I can use the USB flash drive no problem!!!
however...............eh, errrr.....I tried playing a music cd and this message popped up from windows media player:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.
At least that awful grey box that used to say Acess is denied is gone.
When I tried to play a dvd, it said I need a dvd decoder. Any advice on this? :D
