You have no sound because you havnt installed the sound drivers, you will have other stuff than dont work till you get drivers too, youll havta go to acer web site and get the drivers.
Be sure to check device manager for any exclamation marks, they mean a driver is missing.

To get a dvd decoder you havta pay money for it, or get media player classic for free, it has built in dvd decoder.so it will play DVDs.
Download it here

Hello there snorg, thanks again mate, I have learned a lot from you in this short while. Just to note, about building me own computer,
I am really into what you have to say, it makes sense to stay away from the cookie cutter factory PC's.

I am going to save that information that you posted about what I would need, and put it into a folder, I won't scrap my acer at this time,

however, when I am ready to give it a go, I will have some info to start with. Great idea building your own, a little scary because I am not computer whiz but I can learn.

I was telling me mate about your ideas and he said it was great, that his brother built his own and is happy with the outcome.

Maybe it is the wave of the future, or maybe it happens a lot and I am just behind on everything.

Now if I could just learn to type. LOL! Thank goodness for spell check!!

I am really inspired.

Will chat later today mate, got a lot of errands until later. Regards, Oz B-)

Hey there, I tried to install the media player but it didn't seem to wrk, or most likely I couldn't work it. I have the cd for power dvd so I installed that instead.

I get a error code F4D41436

The TV Out port of your display card is not wrking properly

The copied protected disc can not be played when the TV out function is enabled.

How do I disable this function? Regards, Podge

aaaaaaaaaah... I put in another dvd, Sweeney Todd and it is working!!!! all that is left now is getting some sound.

I went to the acer site and could not find anything for my computer Acer Vertron 2800, so if anyone knows where and what I can do to get my sound going, it would be muchly appreciated. 1 more thing and that is it whoopee!!! Then all I need to do is start learning how to build me own PC

You guys sick of me yet???

Hey oz, Check your device manager and if you see a yellow flag ( ? or ! ) , right click on it, if it says install drivers click on it. and they should install if they are in there. If not, you'll have to find out which audio device is on your motherboard ( such as Realtek) and go there and get them. coastie

Thanks Coastie, How do I find that on my motherboard? you know, I don't think I have anything in there, I went to add/remove programs and there is not any kind of cd software in there?

The only yellow question marks in device manager are in

"other devices"

Ethernet Controller

PCI Device

Video Controller (VGA Compatable)

When I go to update drivers there, nothing happens,

I am conncected to the internet with my bigpond USB port now, it was ehternet, but the bloke at Bigpond tech support said to just leave the USB option as it seems to be working

Hey oz, Keep a note of that stuff as there should be no yelow markers, If you right click on them and you get nothing then the drivers aren't in there. Here are the drivers for your computer. It is from the Acer Euro Site as I'm not sure of your location. support.acer-euro.com/drivers/desktop/veriton_2800.html coastie

Costie Oh I found out how sorry, I am in Australia but the acer page here does not have downloads, downloading from Europe, when I tried to download the audio driver, said it would take 3 hrs. Is that normal?

Hey Snorg, Thanks for the tip, I will try that again mate.

Installing windoze on a store bought PC is a nightmare because it can be very hard to find drivers.
When you build your own PC all the drivers come with the parts you buy.
My internet connection is to slow to help you hunt for drivers, so maybe Coastie can help with that.

Go to windows update and choose "Custom" install everything they show you mite get a few drivers like that.
DO NOT install Windows Search it is horrific.

IT IS WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a flippin' niohtmare......seriously if it hadn't been for you good people here, I don't know what I would have done,

what extraordinary good people you all are!

Snorg, slowly but surely, I want to pick your brain about building a computer, I am convinced that it is the way to go, if it is like putting together a big leggo project, I might be able to do it, Hopefully there isn't any soldering of wires and things like that (shudder)....

I am now listening to the soundtrack from the show : "For me and my gal" If that isn't weird what is? LOL!

I have to clean the house now, there are boxes everywhere that I drug out looking for this cd or that cd or that cable.

what can I say, I am a funny guy.

I will chat with you AWESOME PEOPLE LATER. Regards, Le Ozpodge

WINDOZE! Now that is funny Snorg! :8}

Hey oz, I guess it would depend on the connection speed. Actually I take those things with a grain of salt. I had one that said 3 Hrs. + and took only a few minutes. coastie

Hey oz, :D there's no right or wrong on the point distribution, it is how YOU feel that they should be distributed. As for snorg, he may be hibernating up in the frozen North where he is at, although, he is subject to showing up at any time. Glad we could be of assitance, and feel free to come back and visit anytime. coastie
