I have a feeling im experiencing hardrive failure since when i burn stuff with nero im getting burn sector errors when im verifying and i know the data is fine.
Sometimes when i put in disk in disk drive and try to drag to desktop it gets some crc error but when i take it out put it back in it works.
So i ran a chkdsk in command prompt and this what came up. link no clue what that means. I already did in chkdsk check when my comp boots that took over an hr to do and i have no clue if that even fixed anything because after doing that, a week later i was getting burn sector errors with nero again. I'm also getting lags from start menu sometimes i click it freezes for a couple seconds. Everest Ultimate won't open too it takes like 6 secs to open which is not normal. Also if im downloading something it freezes for like 3 secs before the dl screen pops up sometimes. I know its not a virus because i scanned enough times, did disk defrag no help. Right now im running a Long DST test with SeaTools for Windows (should take a couple hours to complete). So what are your thoughts? Is it hardrive failure or something else?
My computer specs are
amd athlon 4400 clocked at 2.3ghz
2gigs ram
300gig seagate hdd thats the model ST3320620AS
8600gt video card
windows xp pro 32bit

Have you tried running Chkdsk in non-read only mode? Maybe it can fix the errors.

Hey lil !!

Are you getting any noise from the HDD ? Clicling , whirring ?

Is it heating up ? I think , by the Athlon , if it's the original HDD,

it is between 3 and 5 years old. Some times , the spindle on the

HDD is wearing out . One trick I learned a while back is to

Tilt the box to the right hand side. Lift the Left side by about

1 (one ) inch and see if this does anything. At the same time

try using a different burning app. See if any of these work.

To test the temp , use this HDTune .

Are your fans all working properly and no dust ?

Hey lil !!

Well, I'm no expert but, by reading the log from check disk , I would back up

my HDD. right mow. It could still run for some time but , you might still get

bad writes . It looks like your (HDD) has bad sectors that chck dsk can't

fix. How old is this HDD. lil ? Driver OK ? . Have you verified that your HDD

is not prone to failure on the Seagate site ? .

Its just a year and a half old. Im not experiencing data losses but i always have all my things backed up. Il do one more disk check when my comp boots up and see what happens. I haven't checked seagate site yet though.

Hey lil, That sounds pretty good on the surface. Several things come to mind, 1) It could be due to the media you are burning to. 2) As crazy as it may sound, it may be due the AV ( try turning if off when you burn something and see if it helps) 3) Check for updates to Nero 4) Your burner may be getting ready to go south coastie

I've seen this similar fault on a few machines and found the hard drive not to be the problem. A couple were from a loose connector on the memory card and another was an AV problem that was creating an extra bit to get stuck in the data burned to a DVD.

i just tested my antivirus off and it seems like everest has some sort of confliction with nod32. When nods disabled everest can run speedy fast like 1 sec but if its on it waits like 10sec til it can open. Il try to burn the data one more time this time with antivirus off and see what happens

The screenshot you posted was chkdsk in read-only mode . From the elevated command prompt, type "chkdsk C: /f /r " (without quotes). What did the sea tools tests say ?
