The title is misleading.
They aren't being helped by MS or IRS so much as they are trading in their good names.
The entities actually helping them are the search engines, like Google and Yahoo and others, who rely too much on formulaic profiles to rank linkages. The scamsters and spamsters have been gaming this system for years.
A more accurate title MIGHT help wake up the world to the REAL problem here (after, that is, the thieving creeps themselves).

Actually, the article cites Microsoft and IRS web sites as having the issues.

But realistically, Microsoft gets the lion's share of blame for making such a buggy, insecure OS that its users are paranoid and believe without a doubt that at any given moment their system will be infected by 'god knows what' that will not only eat their computer, but carry on and eat their face, too.

Isn't Microsoft's website the problem in this case and not necessarily the OS?

If Microsoft and everyone else had done their job to begin with,we wouldn't be having these issues to deal with, now would we?

Pay attention to what you're reading!
A better title: "Fake AV peddlers continue to game search results at Google" - playing on the good names of others.
It is fake re-directs at search engines, NOT compromised web sites! THAT'S the problem, not MS or IRS sites.
And ALL unpatched browsers are vulnerable, not just IE!

You are absolutely correct. It the search engine flaw, not the website's flaw. The individual searching never to to the Microsoft or IRS websites, so how could they possibly be at fault? Of course some blame Microsoft for the snowstorm that has hit the northern part of the US, and every other thing that can possibly go wrong.

Put them on work gangs for 20 years with no chance of appeal or early release and your problem will be solved

Unless they have the money to pay for all damages and expenses they've caused (not likely) and let them do that. It's the people that have been harmed that need restitution, though, not the court system.

Good point. They should be paid for working and the money should go to those they hurt. We need accountability and justice in this system or what's the point of continuing it.

Don't you wish we could hunt down the A-holes and just whack them?
Why does society have to tolerate scumbags?
People that knowingly and willingly commit crimes should just be executed
They are a drag on those of us that work hard everyday to be successful
These people are not starving and stealing bread to survive, they are just stealing because they are greedy, I say whack 'em

Except that...

...A fully patched "Microsoft Windows" computer, running the latest Service-Packs, AND using anti-virus, AND behind a firewall... CAN STILL BE COMPLETELY COMPROMISED... simply from -touching- a "poisoned" web-site (either found through a, legitimate, "Search Engine", OR via a web "re-direct"). That is simply an, unfortunate, fact of "MS-Windows" use (due to the numerous holes, and attack-vectors built-into "Windows"). And, frankly, YES... that IS Microsofts fault.
