There is no real problem at the current time. There may be one if there is something that you need from SP2, because SP2 will require SP1. SP1 is mostly a collection of all the other updates. There are at least two and maybe a third update (if your running the right version) that must be installed first.

Can you please tell us the make and model of your machine? (Never post the serial number) That may give us some specific information, and also if you could detail the conflicts you encountered and how you installed it. (ie: Automatic update, specific download, etc).

Most of us held off a month or so to let things settle out, but I have not encountered any real problems, but some machines have. I think there was a problem with some HP laptops with AMD processors, but don't recall the details.

WOW!! didn't expect any answers that quick. Anyway, I have an HP a6210z with AMD 64x2 Dual Core Processor and 32 bit OS. Also I have Vista Home Basic. My problems in general were everything from difficult restart, to frozen screen, to just slow annoyance. After I dumped SP1 the problems stopped. I don't know what part SP2 will eventually play but I don't know if I even want to mess with SP1 again. At age 78 I may not have enough time to run through all of the problems again. DJD

+ *LOL--When I downloaded SP1 I judiciously followed all of the steps in the site you mentioned. Finally downloading from Windows Update. I am not a geek but had some knowledge about the steps mentioned in that information. I can't see that I goofed any of it but nethertheless my reward was a pain in the---well anyway. If I get to the point where I have to go SP2 I know SP1 has to be first---but hate the idea of even thinking about it. Thanks for the reply. DJD
