Ok so here's my problem. I just got a new headset mic for my Dell Dimension 4550 for christmas, the headset is a Plantronics GameCom 377 if that helps at all. It doesnt use USB to plug in, it uses seperate mic and audio jacks. so i plugged it in to the back of my computer and got on Ventrilo, the mic works but i never hear any audio. so then i plugged just the audio jack in to the headphone jack in the front of the computer to test and make sure the headset works properly, and it does. so after i take it out and try plugging it in to the back of the computer again and finaly give up on it, all audio on my computer has a constant crackling sound. i can still hear other sounds from my speakers like when i play music but the crackling is still there in the background.
the only thing i know about my sound card is its a "Creative Sound Blaster Live Series" if i can avoid having to buy a new sound card i would but i just dont know whats wrong. if anyone has any suggestions about what i can do to possibly fix this it would be much appreciated.

Well my first problem i want solve is the crackling, it has recently in the past few minutes gone down to just background static rather than crackling. But i have looked for the headset in the audio devices and i only see Creative SB live series and Modem #2 line playback, and those are always there. nothing new shows up in the devices when i plug in the headset. i have restarted the computer after plugging in the headset and it still doesnt show up. But as i said before the first thing i wanna fix is the crackling problem.
And i have never had this problem before either.
