I'm learning how to build simple HTML pages using Notepad and I have a bunch of links on one. I want to categorize these links into 3 columns. I've searched the web quite extensively on how to do this but I'm really new to this so I haven't been able to figure out what applies.

I also see CSS and XHTML all over the place. Does help with them apply to me?

I've gotten a lot of help from an article called: How to Make a Web Page for Free - Basic HTML Tutorial ironspider.ca, but I don't think they address the columns issue.

I'm using Microsoft Windows XP SP3, and Mozilla Firefox 3.0.5.

you may use the table tag for creating tables/columns.

for ex. the body part of coding would be like -

Above will set the column headers. For column entries use tag specifies each row. You may search a bit for the table tag and it will be more clear. If something isn't clear , then feel free to post back.

Hi, [~71480],

Thanks for your help. I'm not quite sure how to apply that coding. Where do I put the coding for my links in relation to the coding you just gave me? I'm afraid I'll going need very specific step-by-step instructions because I'm totally new to builing HTML pages.

Have you ever considered using an HTML editor to make it easier you can always view the code as well in order to see whats going on:

net2.com/nvu/

I know you like using software other have used before, and I have personally used this program its a very nice little free html editor that will do pretty much what you need. Course something like Dreamweaver is better and more complex.. and a lot more expensive lol.

No, I hadn't considered an editor. Based on your recommendation, I'll try Nvu.

Thanks

Hey, the program works well. I got my table and I got the links into. The only other thing (I think) is the entries are all seperated by large margins. I'd like to pack all links from the same column close together. Do you know how to do that.

Nix that last post of mine. I just found the setting.
Great little program, Aurora. Everything is set up for me to make my page the way I want it. It's also handy that it shows the tags so that I can learn HTML at the same time.

This thread is answered. B-)

hmm , i couldnt reply earlier due to time constraints but i guess Aurora solved your problem pretty easily and in a better way.

btw - i just put a sample of the coding and the resulting webpage, just in case you are curious to know how it(html) works. The overlay is the notepad file while the other one is the resulting page.

[~71480]! Thank you! That is exactly what I was asking for. I'm glad you posted.
