Hi I have been trying to install Microsoft visual C# on my computer, and
while it downloads okay, it fails to install every time, can you give me
any idea why I'm having this problem? I use Windows XP SP3 and run AVG
antivirus as well as spybot, spyware guard and spyware blaster. I have
attached the error messages and have sent all of them to Microsoft, but
have no idea what to do next, please let me know if you need additional
information. Thank you Lee Jenkinson. (I saved the error messages FYI)

You need to tell us what the error message says.

Hi Lee. The error messages would be helpful. At first blush though, you have an awful lot of security stuff running. You should only have one Anti Virus and one Antispyware program running actively. The rest can be used as additonal scans, but should not be active. coastie65

Thanks for the tip. I shut down Spyware guard and spyware blaster, and just left AVG and Spybot running

but it didn't make any difference, I still get the installation error message.

The last post of the error messages looked a little weird so I'm re-posting them.

I shut down Spyware guard...

Hi Bugga and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

Unless I am going nuts, Spyware Guard is the reason why you cannot install this application. Spyware Guard is a virus in itself. I know for a fact because I just removed this virus off of a client's computer not more than a week ago.

Since the error messages that you presented seemed rather garbled, can you please provide screen shots of the error messages? To do this, please follow the steps within this Document - {document:id=1144}. Additionally, I would strongly urge you to run a scan using SuperAntiSpyware. If you do not have this application already installed within your computer, you may not be able to download it. Just in case, you can find SuperAntiSpyware here

If you do not have SAS and cannot download or install it, let us know and we will provide some more suggestions.

Thanks mph, and thanks for the welcome! Okay, I uninstalled all of the anti(?)-spyware and kept AVG (is that okay? I bought the full version) and downloaded and installed SuperAntiSpyware and am running a scan as we speak. Should I try just disabling all of my anti-whatever stuff and try installing the Visual C#? I also followed the instructions and uploaded the error messages to this URL: http://s379.photobuc.../oo238/pr0ntus/

I just copied and pasted it to see if it worked and it did. Thanks for all of your help so far, it's nice to talk to people who are willing to help out! :8}

Hi Lee, I've done some research and there are two Spyware Guards. One is a legitimate app the other is rogue. If it is SPYWARE GUARD 2008 it is a rogue program. If it is SPYWAREGUARD 2.2 then it is a legitimate app. I would also recommend downloading and running www.malwarebytes.org as well to be on the safe side. As for protection, I am not sure of what you have in there, but Avast! is a very good anti Virus app and is FREE. SUPERantispyware is a very good app for spyware. coastie

I did a little reading and after checking the update history at the Windows update site found that the Net Framework 2.0 service pack was failing to update. I checked the XP Add/remove Programs and subsequently repaired the xna Framework redisributable 1.0 refresh. After this I re-checked the one outstanding failed update in Windows Update and it had disappeared. I then re-tried the installation of Virtual C# and everything installed successfully after I was prompted to reset the BITS option in "services.msc" except for the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. I am going to see if everything works now or if I still need to fix whatever is causing the issue with the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. If you have any ideas feel free to let me know. I currently am running SuperSpyWare antispyware and AVG antivirus. Thanks for the help so far!
