Hey Tressa !!
Welcome to PCWorld Community !
OK, If you can't connect to any security sites because of the infection,
then , your next course of action would be to download from another
Clean PC the programs that you will need to a FLASH DRIVE. You
would then, be able to install those programs from the Flash Drive
to your PC .
First , let's try this site to see if the infection will disable your ability
to visit :
http://www.pcsafety.us/ . Once connected (if you can) , the top of the
page will have : *{font:Verdana}{size:2}
Virus Removal Tools - Spyware Removal Tools{size}{font}*{font:Verdana}{size:1} {size}{font}
Under this heading you will download and install these programs :
MalewareBytes AntiMalware and SUPERAntiSpyware .
If you are able to , then download , install and Update the definitions
Before you start a Full Scan of your PC.
Start with MalwareBytes. download , install and Update the definitions
Before you start a Full Scan .
Then , do the exact same for SUPERAntiSpyware.
This might take a long time depending on the size of the Hard Drive.
SO , be patient.
Once the scans are finished , go to the LOGS tab in both security programs
and in your next post , Upload the results of the logs.

Hi Tressa, Yep, you got a rogue. SPYWARE GUARD 2008. The legitimate one is SpywareGuard 2.2 As as been suggested, you can try to download and run Malwarebyes at www.malwarebytes.org/ and [http://www.superantispyware.com/]. If you are unable to download and run the stuff you can try to do so in safe mode or use the method that was described. I don't know if there is a manuel removal thing for that, but it would be rather extensive and lengthy to say the least and not for the faint of heart. Those things usually take you deep within the computer and registry files. You might also try this: [http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-spyware-guard-2008.html] coastie65

Hi Tressa and welcome to PCWorld Community.
You did not specify what kind of OS (Operating System) you have, is it Vista or XP?
Either way, Microsoft has issued a Malware Removal Tool updates for both, I believe. If you have downloaded and installed the updates from MSFT you will now have their MRT.
So you can also try this: Go to Start Menu and type MRT.EXE. If it shows up then you do have it. Run a scan and this might be able to get rid of this problem for you. I myself have not tried this, but a member mentioned it a few days ago and it sounds like a good solution too.
Flashorn has given you excellent advise. If you can, follow his advice first, download the programs he suggests (they're free) get the updates first, run the scans and then post the results here.
Good luck.

This virus is a pain in the ass. My friend got the same exact thing. It blocks malwarebytes from installing in regular and safe mode, blocks superantispyware... gives you blue screen of death if you try to even load some antivirus on there (i was able to load avast but the virus blocked it from being able to update) it redirects your internet like hell too. I reformatted to fix my friends problem.

About 12 days ago, someone else with a similar problem requested help . You can read
what Advice was offered by reading through the Info at
forums.pcworld.com/message/167506#167506|m-167506 . IF you are able to run a scan using
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and IF anything in the Log Results has a "tdss", then follow
the Advice of "Temerc", who is a certified "Malware Removal Specialist" in what he wrote
at [http://forums.pcworld.com/thread/45160|t-45160] .
