I somehow managed to contract this particular infection a little over a week ago. I've been using Spybot-Search and Destroy along with Spyware Doctor for years but neither of them have been any help so far. I even contacted Spyware Doctor reps specifically after the virus showed up to enlist their help in removing it. So far they haven't come up with a solution.
Here is a basic description of it:
RogueAntiSpyware.SpywareGuard2008
also called:
SpwareGuard2008[Symantec]
Description:
A rogue anti-spyware application which uses aggressive and deceptive advertising along with false detections to persuade users to download and purchase their product.
So far it is like going through Hell just to boot up my system for a few minutes to check email as the virus repeats itself every couple of minutes in the form of popups, no matter how often I remove it using either Task Manager or the add/remove Hardware option in Control Panel.
For what it's worth, I use Win2K.
So if anyone out there can give me any decent advice on the removal/destruction of this infection it would be very greatly appreciated. Serious replies only please, I have no wish to go through dozens of messages wasting space by giving sympthy or recommending useless products. I have already had my fill of those after having used Google to try and find helpful results.
Thank you for your attention.

Hi Daveblack and welcome to PCWorld Community,

First - You have posted your question on the wrong forum, it should be in the Privacy & Security forum.

Second - A bad attitude might not attract the right people to help you with your problem.

Third - We've had a slew of people with the same problem as yours. Did you check to see if anyone else had the same question?

Fourth - Check out this information about the SpywareGuard 2008 problem.

Hey Dave !!

Ok, no sympathy from me , just hard facts and you will probably be going through

more hell before this is over. This one is nastie. I'm surprised to see you can still access your

internet to visit security sites.

I will give you a few sites and programs to use but, from what we saw last week , this infection

might be blocking the connection to the only security program able to remove this malware.

If you can , Download , Install and Up-Date (very important) the Definitions BEFORE you start a

FULL scan of your PC.

MalwareBytes AntiMalware . Click on the blue link.

The next program is called SUPERAntiSpyware . PLZ do EXACTLY as instructed for the above

program.

SUPERAntiSpyware . Click on the blue link.

The third program we will use is called RogueRemover Free . This one needs to be Installed and Up-Dated

as well (very important) BEFORE you do a scan of your PC. This one will n ot take long.

RogueRemover Free . Click on blue link.

If you cannot connect to these sites , it is because the Malware is preventing you from downloading

these programs. If this is the case then , we will try and download these programs from this site :

PCSafety.us .

You will find the same programs on this site and hopefully the

malware will not prevent you from connecting. These will have the PRO versions but, install anyway.

Once the scans are finished , go to the LOGS tab in the first two programs and Copy - Paste the LOGS

in your next post and we will go from there.

Hi Dave, Your final paragraph does not invite help. If you want help, fine, but do not make it sound like an ultimatum. Second, I am going move this to the appropriate topic. In addition to the link Adama has provided, There are two more things that should be helpful: www.SUPERantispyware.com & www.malwarebytes.org both are free and very good. Yeah, Spyware Guard 2008 is a rogue, but there is a legitimate app, SpywareGuard 2.2 they are easily mistaken and is why you should research something before downloading it. coastie65
