Hi Grrr8, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! :D
I did a quick Google check and it looks like the BKF files have something to do with file recovery. A search of MSFT page didn't help me to understand it any better.
But I did find this about a RECOVERY SOFTWARE, it looks interesting and maybe it would explain why the files couldn't be Defragmented.
Sorry, I couldn't be of more help. :_| Maybe some of our experts will drop by and help you better understand your dilemma.

Hey Grr !!
Have you tried to defrag in safe mode? There are less files being used in safe mode.
Also, some files Cannot be defraged. The prefetched file folder cannot be moved so,
it cannot be defraged.Windows puts those files on the outer edge of the disk to avoid
them being defraged.
Now, I am just speculating here but, since these are back up
files , that might be the reason why they are not being defraged. Those are ones that
cannot be moved so , they can't be defraged.

Hi Grr. As Flashorn asked, have you tried to defragment the .bkf files in Safe Mode?
There may be a limitation on how well the Windows Defragmentation utility defragments the .bkf files. You may have no other choice than to get an application that is solely decided to either defragment files or specializes in defragmenting .bkf files.

And this computer has less that 60GB of hard drive space. It only has 20 GB left.

Additionally, you may want to seriously consider getting a larger hard drive. A 60GB hard drive is unheard of in this day. Hard drives are inexpensive to buy and easy to install.

Sorry this took so long. Pagedefrag couldn't even find the problem. Any other ideas? I don't know what would be using the files and I don't want to pay for any software as the computer still works.
pagedefrag is a boot time defragger utility , made for defragging files at boot time which are constantly in use by system while running . Can you post the screen shot which just appears when you run page defrag.
Although pagedefrag was developed mainly for pagefile and system files defrag , it does other locked files also. A better application with excellent boot time defrag capabilities is the Diskeeper. It has a 30 day trial version , you may use that and if it solves your problem , you may consider purchasing it . It will defragmrnt those locked files anyways in one or two runs , you may uninstall after that if you dont need it. But its a nice application.

Well I have been using Defraggler which works far better than the windows defragmenter. I can't get a screen shot. It goes too fast. I don't think that defragmenting it would be the answer. I believe that the best way to do it would be to just get rid of the bkf files. Anyone know if this would work, and if so, how would I do it?
