Windows 7 Update error 80070002 + Windows vista installer?

Now to my second question/problem: Since the updater was not working, I thought I would get a CD version of Windows 7. (I had been using a VM version before.) After downloading it and burning it to a DVD, I tried running it just for kicks and grinns, while I was in my base operating system, Windows xp. Up poped a windows Vista install prompt! Did I just accidentally download a pirated version of windows vista without knowing it? I haven't tried actually running the installer, but if someone could help me on the previous problem, along with finding the actual download location of a windows 7 .iso file, that would be great!

So what i would suggest is remove the current installation that you have and wait for 2 more days to get the checked build from trusted sources.

In your opinion or knowledge, do you know if Microsoft will limit this public OS in anyway that the private OS wasn't?
Also, I still keep thinking: "Holy crap, I must have gotten a pirated version of Vista! :(" I mean, after using it awhile, it's like Vista in almost every aspect - the taskbar, the activation message... I think i got Vista named as Windows 7! What should I do, reformat the hard drive that it was on?
EDIT: Also, I've been reading around, and it looks like Windows 7 beta will only be able to install if it is installed over Vista SP1. Is that true, meaning I can't do a clean install?

First , If you were one of the 2.5 million people to be able to download the Beta then ,
no , there would not be a limite on what you can do with the Windows 7.
Right now , You would be out of luck if you haven't downloaded the Beta as, the servers are now
closed and the link that Piyush gave you says :
h1. Windows® 7 Beta coming soon!
OR
h1. Server is too busy
The best I can do is : www.askwoody.com/ . click on the"Brandon LeBlanc" link
On your question of Vista ! Have you tried to go back a few days with System Restore ?
That might take away the version that you installed IF you installed over XP.
Now , for your third question , You DO have to have VISTA SP1 in order for WINDOWS 7 to install.
I don't believe this Beta is meant as a clean install. Sorry ! I just reviewed a up-date. You can do a
Clean Install , BUT you would still have to have Vista SP1 installed before.
UP-DATE: you can still get your ISO file from this location :

Hope this helps.

OK, I'm sure but, from what I have been reading , the reason for Vista SP1
might have something to do with Drivers that XP doesn 't have. I don't know
but, it sounds like it. If you take a look at this page :
http://blog.wired.co...ws-7-publi.html .
you might find what you need to know.
OK, I'm not supposed to do this but, ( I just hope the Mods in heaven won't be too angry with me)
https://isohunt.com/...?ihq=Windows+7.
uTorrent 1.77 : http://www.filehippo..._utorrent/3729/ . Best !!

I'm surprised you're giving me an outdated one, though. The latest and greatest is 1.8.1.
Like you said, I hope the mods in heaven won't be angry at me for saying this, but I am downloading a build 7000 torrent. That is the latest, right? What am I going to do about activating it?

Believe me, Krissy, the Community Manager, and all of the Member Moderators understand that torrents are used, just please try to limit the discussion of torrents to as little as possible. Also, please remember the {document:id=1000} when posting anything. If the discussion of torrents is deemed inappropriate altogether, it will be removed. Krissy has the ultimate decision on anything like this.

You an do a clean install or an upgrade. The upgrade will require vista , clean install can be done on any PC. As far as activatin is concerned , msft will give keys when you register at their site for the download. Downloads from 3rd parties isnt verified and moreover you wont have the key to activate it , so it will expire soon.

You are right about third party downloads . Actually , you will only get 30 days just like a trial.
After that I don't know. One thing you have to be aware of is that, WMP 12 has a bug and eats
MP3s but, there is a fix so, download the fix. The link I provided from Wired is Direct Link.
It will start downloading as soon as you hit the Windows 7 link and mine took 1 hr 12 mn.
I will have to look for the activation key but shouldn't be that hard to find.
Nice to hear from you old friend.
