I live in Iran whose Internet is highly under censorship and control. I cannot even visit websites like VOA and so on. I am an ordinary user with a PC at home. Can I use OpenVPN to surf the Net anonymously. Is so, would you please do me a favor and let me know how I should configure OpenVPN for this purpose? I read HOWTO, but it seems too complicated and technical to me. :-(
I am confused and frustrated and do not really know what to do.
Please help me.
Thank you very much in advance.

If your internet is so controlled and watched as you describe, you could be pentalyzed for using a VPN to surf the net anonymously. You could surf the net without being controlled, but they would know you are doing it.

OpenVPN is not an anoymizer service on itself, it is software that will help you to to establish a secure VPN, you may want to establish a secure VPN for multiple reasons, to get around internet filtering, stop identity theft, etc...
You can not use OpenVPN to get around internet filtering unless you have a VPN provider, these providers are not free, however you could use a live CD that has tor installed but your ISP will know you are surfing the internet anonymously although not what sites.

You can download OnionOS for free here:

OnionOS: LiveCD for anonymous internet browsing

To use OnionOS you will need to burn the .iso to a CD and restart your computer with the CD in the drive.

You have an easier alternative, you will need the Firefox browser and add this two addons:

Torbutton 1.2.0 for anonymous internet browsing

Access Flickr! 1.10, Bypasses the flickr.com filter in Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, China and other banned countries

It is possible that some of the sites mentioned above are blocked, if that is the case you will have to ask someone outside Iran to download it for you and email it or upload to a public file sharing site where you can get it.
