I am planning to install a cat5e network in a new house primarily to use my pc as a server for a media network.(tv, audio , radio perhaps). I want to use my current pc (using Windows XP family edition) & to avoid spending on Vista update I would like to use an alternative media center software. My main problem is that new models of media extenders (Linksys for example) appear only to be usable with Windows media Center software. Am I right in thinking this way, if so what hardware is available & any tips on alternative software;

Thanks
