I don't think the transition should be delayed. While I agree there are a lot of people not ready for it, I also agree that it would cause too much confusion on top of existing confusion.
Not only that, but we are a nation of procrastinators, and many people will do nothing until they have to!
It's terrible that the converter box program ran out of money, but the amount of expired coupons is huge and they will slowly (too slowly) send out new coupons according to the waiting list. Hopefully they will go to people who actually need them (I'm guilty for having one, but I'm into video production and a "techie" and figured I'd need one at some point. I've already used it to show my parents for their over the air vacation home though.)
But the converter boxes are really only one half of the equation that was addressed.
The biggest problem (and argument for the delay) that has only recently been slightly addressed is the "cliff" effect where the picture does not become fuzzy over distance, but stops after a certain point. And the coverage distance is less than with analog.
The FCC has been talking about repeater antennas that will rebroadcast the signal (like cell phone antennas), but that costs stations even more. It's too bad that these weren't implemented and federally funded a long time ago when the economy at least on the surface "looked" somewhat OK and our government officials would have paid for them.
Finally, households need to make sure they have the correct antennas: VHF and UHF accepting - not just one of the two.
It's too bad all the money spent on the transition has only addressed one half of the solution! But like a lot of things, I don't believe we can fully learn everything until we do it. And that is the main reason why the transition date must continue!

Government run out of money? That's hillarious. Can't anyone bail them out; I mean tax the guy who wants the converter box and give him the coupon. He won't know that he actually paid a full price for the box, right? I'm "confused". This country is so screwed up by politicians and dumb voters. And the worst is yet to come...
