Aren't we all just amazed that Microsoft lacked foresight and organization to distribute the beta? It's so out of character.

Despite the fact that when I went to the Windows 7 Beta download page on the Microsoft TechNet website, I found a direct link on a website to the images located on Microsofts website.
In fact, I am using Windows 7 now to write this.

Yes, I am amazed. I am amazed that you don't understand what they were and what they weren't prepared for. It has been up for over a week now in the MSDN downloads and is still up for downloading now... They were equipped to serve the download to everyone, but they weren't equipped for their webservers to be pounded away at by multiple millions. I think this really proves that people still love their Windows... I have been in Windows 7 for about 5 days now, and it kicks ASS!

I am not too worried about the memory hoggage as we can go to a full memory capacity now...

Yes, I think most of us expected the usual flawless roll out of the beta and customary exemplary customer experience, this the producer of products such as Vista and Hotmail. It's Charlie Brown and the football! Let's see ... 300 million copies of Vista out there, millions of those owners tweaking Vista to get it to work and reloading the OS instead of doing real work with their computers. And now Windows 7 is said to be pretty good and MS is surprised by the demand?

Much to the contrary, I completely understand. You are most likely a tech of some sort that frequents Microsoft's sites like MSDN. Not everyone works in the industry nor has the time to wade through Microsoft's maze to find things. I sent an e-mail to Microsoft support over a week ago asking about the beta and where and how to download. The only directions given were to Microsoft Connect which does not have the beta and has thousands of posts asking about beta testing. I went to the Windows 7 site today and there was really nothing there for downloads. I got a link from Ars Technica to the TechNet download site, but as everyone knows, it was bogged down very early.

I suggest you expand your narrow view of the world and understand that everyday users are just as important to Microsoft, especially for testing as they will use apps that not a lot of businesses do and often older and/or more midstream equipment. I wanted to test the media center capabilities and the compatibility with some 3rd party media center apps as I have an extra pc that's not critical.

It's for these reasons Microsoft needs to do better planning and prepare for the unexpected. The same reasons they are on a downhill slide and grasping for a new business mode. They should have anticipated demand because of the Vista fiasco and the fact that people know they will have to upgrade eventually.

Maybe Windows 7 Beta download should have been posted on Firefox's home page. They seem to do well with millions of people downloading.

It's funny that the early release Torrent distribution went so smoothly... maybe MSFT should have just gone with the flow?

Windows 7 is very impressive... I've used it since Dec. 31. Great taskbar improvements... less interrupting from pop-ups... quick start-up and shut down... much more lightweight... etc., etc.

I Am downloading from microsoft right now. they did not pull the download link. They just made it unavailable to get to. But if you google or yahoo it, people that have allready downloaded it have posted the link directly to the download.

There's a difference from a 20 MB file and a 2,000MB file... the long connections and heavy memory loads becomes a major issue. I'm not sure what the size of the MSFT download is, but the torrent was 2.6 gig... Firefox servers would blow-up too

I agree... W7 rocks. I've been on it since Dec. 31st.... very impressive improvements. MSFT should have just pointed everyone to the torrents.

Thats very funny because some users are calling it a incremental product and not breakthru as it has Vista Kernal.

Well, we can expect this from M$. And guess what? They will come out of it due to their excellent PR and marketing. And the herd will keep following them... Welcome to the reality.
