If a person can't drive safe and use a cell-phone at the same time (Or any other device for that matter) they shouldn't use the object while driving, but banning everyone from using a cell-phone because some can't in my opinion is to drastic.

However, using "hands free" does not create a larger hazard than talking to a passenger. It boils down to driving skills: some people simply cannot multi-task!
Emergency service drivers, taxi's and Radio Hams have used mobile communications for years - without any problems. Maybe it's the simply the "phone-stuck-to-their-ear" generation that simply can't drive period!

Reminds me of something Charlton Heston once said said about guns, "You can take my cell phone.....after you pry it out of my cold dead hands".

Drivers are fined if they are caught talking on their cell phones while driving here and it has helped to reduce the number of accidents.
Honestly, it is hard to believe that one can safely operate a 1 to 2 ton vehicle travelling at speeds up to 75MPH while talking on the phone.
My personal experience as a pedestrian has improved greatly as I don't find myself having to compete with a cell phone for the attention of drivers.
To Vioarr- If you can find me an instance of a kid being run over due to the overeating of the lady up the street. Then we can talk about the relevance of your example.

If simply having a conversation over a microphone caused accidents, then how can the FAA justify forcing pilots to talk on the radio all the time? They're putting all our lives in danger!!!!
/s
Seriously, if I can pilot an airplane safely while navigating in three dimensions and talking to 5 air traffic controllers in a row, why am I suddenly incapable of having a simple phone conversation the second I step into my car?
Let's ban police and fire personnel from operating their vehicles while talking on the radio or cell phones too. After all, they're under a lot more stress and are subject to much bigger and more dangerous accidents.
Good for the goose, good for the gander!

and why is that everytime, and I am not exaggerating, everytime I see a police car, the officer driving the car is always talking on a cellphone always.
I am yet to see a cop that is not on a cellphone while driving.
