I have been using the windows 7 beta foralmost 2 months now. And i LOVEit!!! It is a major improvement from vista in my book. I like the new GUI and the fact that you can have so many browser windows open at one time and only see 1 icon. ALL my programs and drivers work with windows 7. And i notice a massiveimprovement in gaming performance from XP. The system reqiurements say 1gb of RAM but you can actually run it on 512mb. I have installd it on ALL my computers and it runs amazinglyon ALL of them. With 512mb of RAM windows 7 disables even more unnecesary startup processes so you only use 256mb of RAM. As a former Die Hard XP supporter i can say that i will be running windows 7 as soon as it comes out. (as long as they dont change it too much.) One earlier comment said that they liked thre somewhat ugly. I likedthe 3d start menu and icons in XP. I liked the 3d look of the startbar and windows too. But xp's themes were rather childish looking. If only they could make it both transparent and 3d.

Win XP Pro was already corrupted on my PC and even though I am aware of the dangers of using a beta OS for your working computer I decided to give it a try anyway. My home buily system is as follows:
Asus P5ND2-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G RAM
Intel P4 3.4 GHz
BIOS Award Rev 1107
DVD-R Plextor PX-712A
DVD-ROM Sony DDU1615
Creative SB X-Fi Platinum sound card
ATI Radeon X800 XL graphics card
US Robotics 56K PCI Winfax Modem Model # 5699B
Network Intel PRO/1000 MT and NVidia nForce
Silicon Sil3132 SoftRaid 5 Controller

Everything works like a charm except the USR modem driver and iTunes initially had problems till I downloaded a fix from Symantec for Norton 360 ver 3.0
I cannot get Traktor Pro DJ software to work like its supposed to though and I can live with that because Win 7 is a beta OS and I knew what I was getting into when I decided to try it out as my main OS. So far I'm very pleased with what MS has done and thge only reason for me to go back to XP is if the Beta stops woorking before the final release is on the market.

i dont understand how the author had such a bad experience with 7, i didn't experience any of the things he had and my computer has about 1/2 the specs of his. As for the virtual drive he was mad about that didn't work, poweriso works amazing, i use it all the time now that my DVD drive went out...

Yeah, PCWorld authors appear somewhat, um, technically challenged... Thus show bias towards simpler things, other than Microsoft... ;)

Actually it took just over half an hour on an old system with an Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 768MB RDRAM, an 80GB HDD, and an Nvidia Geforce2 mx400 graphics card. Even though once installed it was very slow.
