Hi Dave

Go into safe mode, do check disk of C: drive.

Double click on "my computer"
Right click on C drive choose properties.
Click on tools tab.
In error checking click check now.
Put check mark in automatically fix errors.
DO NOT put check mark in scan for bad sectors.

If that dont work see if you can use a restore point in safe mode, I dont know if that can be done I never tried that in safe mode.

Dont panic, there are other possible fixes too.

Use recovery console by popping in your windows xp disk, booting from disk, then press R for repair and follow instructions.

The recovery console is not something for someone who is not extremely experienced.

Better for him to try simpler fixes first.
If they dont work maybe you can walk him thru that "last good session" fix, I dont remember how that one goes.

went to safe mode did diskcheck on c drive came back successful but could'nt go to dbl click on my computer cant access windows main start screen,what now?

See if you can use a restore point in safe mode, I dont know if that can be done I never tried that in safe mode.

If that dont work maybe somebody can walk you thru a more involved fix, I dont remember details of that cuz I havnt had a problem like yours for a long time.

in safe mode it stops booting at windows sys 32 drivers line agp 440.sys and stops the boot im baffled

That sounds like a buggered up video driver.
If you have a video card in there power off and take the video card out and then see if it will boot.
IF you have the skill for it, that is.

after removel of graphics card connected back to system board prob still exits stopping at the agp440 boot line

I did some research and if its corrupt drivers you are probably looking at reinstalling windoze.

But wait and see, someone else might have a way to fix it later today.

thats the biggie i no longer have my valid xp disk ,although i still know product key numbers i'm i still up a creek without actual install disk?

First off, are you able to boot into windows at all, or do you get bsod every time you get to boot?

I will leave the floor open for LilxKid to officially tell you this but I think you have a corrupted Operating System. If I remember correctly, you indicated that you do not have a Windows XP CD anymore. If that is the case, you may be out of luck. Depending on the manufacturer of your computer, you may be eligible to get a replacement Windows XP CD, order one from the manufacturer, or you may just have to purchase one from a retailer.

Unfortunately, this Community cannot discuss anything related to copied or pirated applications.The only other option would be if you made an image of the Operating System using something like Norton Ghost or Acronis.
