Hi Cuphuoc and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

I have changed your Discussion title to give a clearer indication of your question. For future reference, please be as descriptive as possible in both the heading of your Discussion as well as the post itself.

Fingerprint readers are like any other function of a computer. Drivers are needed to make it work properly. Have you gone to Toshiba's website to update the driver for the reader?

thanks for your reply:

the problem i think comes from vista ultimate. after upgrade to ultimate, windows no longer sees the orginal bios settings, where it has the security module. ultimate wipes out that module. i went to toshiba site for an upgrade of new bios setting, which only applied to xp or any computer with a floppy disk drive. if you ever go to toshiba you will see nothing help.

i uninstall ultimate, return it to seller. and my laptop back to normal with finger print and everything. that is the reason i believe ultimate does not cover this as xp professional, which covers everything from home or basic. if you have anything in home version, you will be fine with professional. but it you have something in vista home, you might lose it in ultimate. that is my case.

i post this in the hope of any geek who is so good in windows to have a way to restore window itself, not toshiba.

again, thank you for your reply and have a nice holiday weekend

There in lies the problem with manufactured computers. In order for you to get a "fresh" installation, the manufacturer reverts the Operating System to its original factory settings. If the BIOS for this computer does not have a fingerprint scanner security module when Windows Vista Ultimate is installed, there may not be anything you can do about that.

It may be a bummer but there may not be anything you can...especially if Toshiba has already told you the same thing. If there is anything that can be done, I am sure someone within this Community will suggest something.
