How can I know what software will go with what version of Windoze? You gotta be kidding me. The 'enterprise' stuff that would confoozle the user goes into the EXPENSIVE windoze, and the CONSUMER windoze doesn't get it. Simple. Sort of like I can tell where salad oil and water will end up when you pour them into a glass.
All the positives things you said about Windoze can be said of Linux, except I don't need scandisk, antivirus, antispyware, or anti-whatever else they come up with to protect Windoze.
Oh, and don't you know Linux doesn't play games?
All this Bill Gates worship. Heck, Linus Torvalds and Richard Stallman did things I'll never do as well. They just don't happen to have a multi-billion dollar marketing campaign behind them.
And Bill Gates didn't invent Windows, DOS, Office, or anything else. Microsoft bought that stuff from other companies and had its logo stamped on. Other things, Microsoft simply copies and drives the inventing companies out of business for.

wow i think evildave lives on these forums. All will say is talk to me when i see the 1% goes up then i start considering it and that just a maybe "yawns" i will tell you one thing that microsoft did and did it on its own is stepping in to the console market and boy people are loving it with whoppin 28 million consoles sold at a price point at 199 who could say no to that (take notes Sony you have lost)
and no i am not interested using wine only to find out that it sort of works or when it works i don't get certain effects and also penguin games don't really interests me.
Of course Linux could play games. The question is will you like playing these type of games or having your high end games reduced to look like crap because it can't properly handle the dx calls properly that is the question.
and in case you mention about open gl or if games were opengl this problem would not have exist. Well maybe because game publishers and developers (people that work hard to brings us entertainment) are only human like you and i and have necessities that needs to be met?? like paying your rent and bills to survive while working at the entertainment industry?? or maybe because when people are losing their jobs is not cool at all??.
Or maybe if the community are willing to pay these developers to start supporting opengl that is a thought no??. I suppose that should be free too??.

OpenGL is, and always has been an open standard. Hence the 'Open' in the name.
It is implemented in Linux. The problem is, some proprietary video cards don't have drivers to access their 3D goodies, so they come up in 'VESA' mode or some other CPU driven frame buffer mode.
Envy for Debian/Ubuntu installs the proprietary ATI/NVidia drivers nicely. So nicely that it basically got integrated into Ubuntu among the third party proprietary drivers with 8.10.
As I've maintained all along, if you want to play games, get yourself a console. It'll cost less than a gaming 3D card, and last through two computers, or you'll just use the same computer twice as long since you aren't trying to stay ahead of the gaming technology curve.
You can go and play any Flash or Java game or online game a Windoze PC can with Linux.
Who'd want to play a 'penguin game'? Considering that Solitaire is the #1 used Windows application for most people (not just #1 played GAME), and Ubuntu has dozens of variations of Solitaire pre-installed, I'd say that's a pretty clear win for Linux, too.
Besides, you can always do work on Linux and reboot your PC into Windoze as your 'gaming PC', at least for a year or so before it needs hardware upgrades to continue playing new games.

wow just wow you could be so wrong than ever before. Funny how you say about gaming on consoles i skip this generation of consoles because my built gaming rig. that i built one year ago still kicks ass. I just installed fear 2 demo that just came out and guess what it works flawlessly no problems. Everything set to max.
Second RTS games are not suited for consoles they have to dumb it down. It is not the same. I went from consoles to gaming pc. and windows brings games to the table with flying colors. I don't care what you say about this but the fact is you are wrong dead wrong about upgrading. Its been a year and 2 months and i havent upgraded squat. in fact most of these newer titles i could run them soo easily much better than the consoles. Anyways i leave you to your false statements and get back to playing this awsome game called fear 2. The suspense is job well done in terms of gameplay and updated visuals compared to the first one. Big improvement over the previous sequels.
How dare you say it takes a lot to get games for windows going which reality its not even true. If you going to say stuff like this at least back it up because any further on this particular area is just asking to be corrected again.
Furthermore most of the consoles games only capable of running 720p my games are run at 1080p with flying colors and best of all NO LAG under windows vista. Its ok if you don't like windows or Microsoft but please do yourself a favor and stop living in the 1 percent bubble and actually look at what people really do want.
I choose fear over any penguin games any day hands down!!.
Excuse me while i go back to playing Fear 2 demo. I am definitely buying this game when it comes out and even if its 49.99. Let me guess it should be free too right??.
And another thing if you want to sound professional and really have others to take you serious. Stop using "windoze" because its making you sound barely getting out of high school. Unless of course you are in high school??

The original FEAR 2 demo was for XBOX 360. PS3 version will also ship. It's on XBOX live. I frankly wasn't all that impressed by F.E.A.R. Many way better shooters come out on the consoles.
Of course, ANY console user can just put the disk in and KNOW it works. A PC owner has some guesswork and 'research' to do. And if they guess wrong, and the title doesn't run on their PC, they can't return the open box. Console users can trade their games when they get bored with them.
So you can play it 'smoothly' on your (still new) PC at 1080p? So what?
You can run it on a console that was shipped over three years ago that cost $299. How much did you spend over the last 3+ years keeping your hardware up to date for PC games to be so proud to be running something 'new' like FEAR 2? I bet it was a lot more than $300. Probably an order of magnitude more. You could have kept one console and one slightly less up-to-date PC for that whole time and been satisfied.
The consoles run at 720p because they connect to HDTV sets and surround sound stereo systems. BIG screen TVs and REAL stereos. Many console games have CO-OP mode, so you don't have to sit by yourself and play alone in front of your little monitor.
It runs at 60FPS at 720p, so you get smoother animation. This is the fastest full-frame refresh available on HDTV. 1080p is only 30FPS.
You can't tell the difference in resolution between 720p and 1080p when things are moving around, though the 720p will be less eye strain.
Even when things are still, you can't tell the difference because game designers don't pack on the text. The UI components are usually implemented for the lowest resolution the game will work at.

tisk tisk tisk so little details left out but anyways suit yourself not going to get into details here. Evidently i can come up with things that turned me a way from consoles.
Guess work you say?? all the guess work is nothing compared to linux. for the most part i am happy what i built and able to run the latest games in fact i would rather buy games for the pc if that games is also on consoles. Games get pushed harder than what the consoles can allow. Of course you won't see this is people only cared for frames rates. But anyways since people lack of knowledge of how textures and resolutions work i won't get into. All i know is i will still continue to game on the pc and have no need for a console
that's the bottom line.
in any case you forgot about the advanced shaders and here one that will definitely slow consoles to a crawl which is anti aliasing and higher textures. Consoles can't really handle this very well. But hey you probably wouldn't notice it anyways. and for the record consoles don't interests me nothing more than a proprietary box kind of like apple but a much dumb version. Sure windows might be proprietary os but its just software and i am fine with that. and no it did not cost me arm and a leg in fact it was pretty close to the ps3 when it was originally launched. at least my build is a success with no problems at all and yet can run these consoles ports no problems.
sides i got my money back from that built so really nothing is lost. this is not about savings here this is about what i wanted so stop with you "oh you should of bought a console because is cheaper nonsense" you sure ain't convincing me. or sounding convincing for that matter.
co op you say. Funny how i was just playing a online session with my friend doing a co op campaign in red alert 3. which by the way looks spectacular with 4xAA (anti aliasing) all set to ultral high settings at 1080p.
and lastly why settle for a disc in the drive where i can simply use steam with not having to swap discs to play a game. just simply click on the icon and launch the game and off you go.
www.steamfriends.com/news/3789/fear-2-confirmed-coming-steam
yes!! its coming to steam Steam has definitely reshape pc gaming for the better. and after playing the demo they definitely be getting my hard earned money and pay them for the hard work they did with this game. :) Sides i have all the fear games and this one definitely going to my collection.

Apple didn't invent the GUI either, they stole it from Xerox stamped their name on it..and still couldn't sell it. Even now. Apple didn't invent teh music player either, they simply took what other did and mae teh next step.. Apple didn't event firewire or usb, they simply backed it with there name. Linus didn't invent Linux, which we all know ceoms from Unix. What's your point? If you don't know how to make something, you have to get teh idea from someone as everything has 1 original designer. And Apple didn't even teh personal computer either.
Its not about who invented, its about what you do with it afterwards. Example, Firewire and USB from what I remembered first appeared on an Apple...yet how many devices has Apple as a hardware made any hardware that actually uses it. Not very many.
We all know Microsoft didn't make a lot of things, they made them better..and many set a standard of what others follow. Before Word name a good word processor...NONE. IBM's Smartsuite sucked. I don't even see how ppl used it. Even Word in DOS was better in my opinion. Lotus 123 or Excel? No Way. Even WordPerfect as good as it was, was only as good as second. But many of the tools I saw in WordPerfect, appeared in Word first.
Apple and Windows GUI both were developed by Xerox PARC and we all know the story. The list goes on. Microsoft doesn't have to event, they revolutionize software and set a standard for what a good program should be. In order to make a better product you need a foundation for an idea. It is at this point easy to make better software then Microsoft, because they have 25 years experimental data they can all gather up.
Out of all the media players I ever used, Real, Apple QT and a few no names only WinAMP and MusicMatch offered something that was better then what MS had. browsers? sure at this point anyone can make one. But Netscape suck which is why I used IE which back then had to be downloaded as well. I loved WordPerfect, but Word was so closely matched and better in many ways switching was easy.
Linux has no dominate qualities to brag about except on an enterprise level. Sure it would work well at home, but for all the headache it would cause the typical user...why switch. Mac offers teh only viable solution that would be quick hands on in a Windows-less world. That is only because teh interfaceis very similar. Which is why everyone I see who says they leave Windows they get a Mac. Bec emplimenting software on it will be easier...and of course you can still have Windows...and you dont need technical nohow. PERIOD. To use Linux you cant aways just point and click.
No one is sucking up to Bill. We don't need too. Windows is where it is, not bec of just great marketing. It was bec it offered more and the hardware it took to run it cost less. Even today. Sure Macs have come down, how much choice did Apple have. If they didn't especially after switching to x86, and ppl know PC hardware isn't expensive, no one would buy them. And ppl who buy them feel they have to bec of what they hear about Windows..and others maybe some bad experience. But guess what they always come back.
I soend a lot of time here reading an learning bec i am a pc fan. mac fans are now simply pc fans. Apple is a hardware company and you expect them to be genuis' at it. But teh ipod and iphone don't do anything any phone hasn't done...or any music player hasn't done. All they did was give it a unique package. I give them that, they did awesomely well. Microsoft is a software company and they make more then just Windows. They also design software on a private level as well. If you ahve teh jack, MS will design custom softare for you and of course if you need compatibility with other things they make, they are genuis enough to give it to you. And just like Apple, they take what others did and take it to another level. Everybody copies. But you all make a big ass frikkin deal bec MS does it. If you buy or hire a genius...that means what they make now becomes yours, but MS still credits teh original designer. Even Bill Gates said in admiration of Apple, 'Some of my best work was done with Steve and the Mac". Have you ever heard Steve say anything nice about MS? NO! Why? Bec he is a bitter old man who just can't accept that he was beaten by a nerd. In one interview how did he say it? He is not bitter about Microsoft's success? And they earned it...and he choked as he said they 'earned it for teh most part". "Microsoft doesn't have taste". Really? There is more to software then making it look pretty. Mac OS looks pretty...thats about as far as it goes. Linux is ugly about as far as it goes. Windows isn't fancy...it simply works..and it works with almost everything. And sure all that comes at some cost to consumers.
As a consumer I feel I have my monies worth. At least I am happy with what I have and I dont need to bash anyone else product.
If Windows is so bad, why do you feel you need to come here an remind us of it? You're just like a person who claims they don't believe in God, yet they get mad if they hear you talk about it Well if you don't believe it shouldn't matter to you. If you don't like Windows then you should be hanging at Linux based forums, along with ppl who will always agree with you.
All this is just a stupid form of prejudice. You should hate a certain product because o this or that.
I don't care about about marketshare, i dont care about names. I care about using what i feel works for me...and i can spend my money as i please. If free was so much better I'd have it. I tried free it sucks. I may as well pay for better. Fact is the best things in life aren't always free. Linux may not have cost, but it has plenty of cost associated with it.
Not all segments in this country have competition. MS just happens to lead in only one. Just one. You act like they run the frikkin world. They don't. but sure they have a [retty good hold on much of it. But no more then AT&T has, or Wal-mart and so many others. Even if Linux or Mac OS switch and got 100% of teh market, i'll still boot up with Windows for as long as I can. I dont cae is MS pounded every technology company in this market. Its not my job to care. I dont care about legals. I dont get paid...as I am not a lawyer. All i care about is when i fore up my pc it works. I started with Apple and I knew what I was getting into when I switched. And I never looked back. I only recently considered jumping from XP to Mac only after I heard about Vista's potential issues. But I experienced none.
Based on this articles title, there really is no battle. The battle is yourself and what you want. Whatever software you like, you should jut use it an be happy with it. Just bec its good for you doesn't mean its good for everyone. If it was everyone would have it. Last time I checked...not many have Linux...the few proud have Mac OS...and teh rest of the WORLD has Windows. Looks like you're outnumbered...so can you give us 1 reason why we should listen? When we have almost 90 reason not too.
Its not about who invented, its about what you do with it afterwards. Example, Firewire and USB from what I remembered first appeared on an Apple...yet how many devices has Apple as a hardware made any hardware that actually uses it. Not very many.
