I recently used Revo Uninstaller to Uninstall Adobe 8 so I could install Adobe 9. However I missed the fact that the Unstaller removed the key in the Registry for Adobe. Now I cannot install Adobe. Is there a fairly simple answer to reinstalling the key so I can use Adobe? Don

Hi Dadodk and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

I changed the Discussion Title to give a clearer idea of your issue. If you legally purchased any Adobe product, all of your information is store with Adobe. Your best option would be to contact Adobe directly and explain the situation to them. Make sure you have your proof of purchase ready in case they ask for it.

Thanks for the reply. I had the free version of Adobe installed and would have no reservation in getting the purchase version. However, Adobe does not offer assistance on the free version and I don't believe I could even install any Adobe with the key gone. That is my problem. I was hoping there was an answer short of taking my PC to a repair store. DadodK

Okay, I am not following. In your initial post (the second quote) you indicated that you had Adobe 8 and that Revo Uninstaller removed the key. This would lead me to believe you had Adobe Acrobat 8, the paid Adobe application. In your latest post (the first quote) you indicated that you had the free version of Adobe installed on your computer. The would be the standard Adobe reader which is free to download and does not require a key. These are contradictory statements.

Can you please clarify your issue so that we may better try to assist you?

If the fee version of Adobe does not require a key then I don't
know why I cannot now install another free version. I was able to
download adobe 8 (even Adobe 9) but it would not install because of
an-- "Error 1402 Could Not Open Key--HKEY-Local-MachineSoftwareMicrosoftWindowscurrent
versionRun Optional componentsMSFS". Doing this in the Registry only
lead to "Do not have access". Additionally, l cannot find Adobe
Creative Suite 3 installer log to give me a hint of what is going on.
So if the free Adobe version does not require a key I can't imagine
what Revo Uninstaller may have otherwise done. dadodk

Okay, now we are getting somewhere. Personally, I have never used Revo Uninstaller; however, there should be no reason that you should have to use that application to uninstall Adobe Reader 8. In addition, installing Adobe Reader 9 would overwrite the existing Adobe Reader 8 installation.

My suggestion to you: Do a System Restore to a point before you attempted to uninstall Adobe Reader 8. This should revert your computer back to the original state and you should have Adobe Reader 8 installed on your computer. After that, install Adobe Reader 9. As I mentioned, this will automatically overwrite the Adobe Reader 8 installation. When the installation of Adobe Reader 9 is complete, you may be prompted to restart the computer.

Now, as an alternative if this does not correct your issue, this Community highly recommends FoxIt Reader over Adobe Reader. FoxIt Reader is less resource intensive and more user friendly. You can find information about FoxIt here.

On a side note, Adobe Creative Suite 3 is a paid Adobe application suite and really has nothing to do with Adobe Reader. If you have Adobe Creative Suite installed on your computer, you should not have a need to use or download Adobe Reader because the suite comes with Adobe Acrobat.

THANKS AGAIN, for the input. I know much more than I did. At age 79 I'm learning more than I thought I would at this age. Your help is greatly appreciated and I will take it from here. You helped me with an aggravating situation. Respectfully, dadodk

As further clarification on this matter I did download Foxit but that appears to read only PDF files already on my computer. Or am I wrong? My problem lies in the fact that I cannot access PDF web site files that use Adobe for their display. If they utilize Adobe can I get around that in some way? Additionally, I have tried System Restore to no avail on this Vista Home Basic PC. dadodk

Okay, this brings back the confusion again. You initially referenced Adobe Creative Suite 3. This suite includes all of the applications that you need to access any Adobe related site or file. Do you actually have this suite?

Additionally, what websites are giving you an issue?
