After removing all the other User Profiles from User Accounts, I am left with Guest (not used) and my own. However, under Documents and Settings I have 4 "accounts": Administrator, All Users, Default User and mine. Is it possible to consolodate all these, or at least get rid of Default User and All Users if I'm forced to maintain the Admistrator folder?

Also, under User Profiles, my account is shown as just my first name. Under Documents and Settings, the folder which contains my settings is named something different. It's not hurting anything, but what would be the effect of renaming that folder to match my Profile name?

Thanks for any thoughts on this, even if the bottom line is "live with it". ?:|

Well The Admin you will want to keep, and IMO is mainly used for safe mode. At least thats what i use it for. You can delete All users and Default user folders. They may come back if Windows needs it. I periodically go thorough and delete stuff myself that I do not need and or want.



I'm not sure on the other Question... There should be a folder for your document and settings for your profile.

If you renamed yourself after the first account was created the folder probably says whatever the first thing you name yourself as when you created your profile. You can turn off guest account and delete that, all users I guess I'd be careful just in case some things are installed to all users instead of to yourself personally maybe you should check out the menus of yours compared to all users and see if anything is missing. Though I don't think you will have a problem if you do delete it. I would leave most of it alone personally unless your really low on space for some reason. Don't rename your folder I think it might cause more problems then it would solve for programs that already have the other directory.

Yeah thats a good question? Im not into the OS and software issues like that as much as I am into Networking and Hardware. Im not sure if MS would have even thought of that.

Yeah Iv'e noticed that MS likes to do that with their OSs (XP, Vista, Etc.) that instead of making it straight foward and having only one folder for each user they have to make an all users, an Admin, an Owner if using an OEM version, folders. And to make it even more complicated the administrator cannot simploy go through and rename or delete them without screwing up the entire OS. That's Microsoft for you.

Well now I suppose what you could do would be to rename your My Docs folder with your name, which is what I did with my home machine and it seems that it isn't giving me a hissy fit over it. Well maybe Windows 7 will simplyfi things or go get a Mac (the last part is a joke) don't use Vista if you don't like XP does the naming convensions, Vista is worse.

I've decided to "have the wisdom to know the difference" as to what I can't change. ;) It's even crazier than I thought. The My Docs folder has my name on it, like you said. The PATH shows "My Documents" under the folder name I wanted to change, but not the lable of "my name". All links lead to the same place! It's totally nuts!

My daughter's new laptop came with Vista (no choice) and I soon figured out that the "Vista" name was an inside joke. With Vista, you can't see ANYTHING that's going on with your system! They sure got the pronunciation of GUI right: GOOEY -- and we're stuck in it.
