CCleaner if you have to have one.

The one that comes with TuneUp Utilities works fine as well.

Although experts are probably correct in the necessity to use a registry cleaner, I've been using one since 2002 and use it after EVERY uninstall of a program. Just a habit and I'm very safe about it. I don't care if you use the Windows uninstaller, Revo uninstaller or any of the other ones, there will always be traces of that program in the registry. I just like getting rid of all remnants. Now Registry defrag software, that I think is a waste of time given the size of today's HD's.

I was wondering what is the best free registry cleaner.

I like any of the Free Registry cleaners by Glary.

I frequently use Glary Registry cleaner after UNinstalling software with Revo Uninstaller. MANY times UNinstalled software will try to run, then crash the computer because the software has been UNinstalled. So immediately after UNinstalling software, I cleanse the registry of ALL references to the UNinstalled software.
