Hi all , my friend has just purchased his first computer with VISTA OS. I have XP- OS. He saw my music choices on my itunes folder and wanted a few. I loaded the songs to my thumbdrive and attempted to transfer them to his SYS. I dragged and dropped them (the folder),from "my computer" page , and got the whole folder as a folder. His music will not play unless the "thumbdrive" is plugged in. (I want my thumbdrive back!). any ideas as how to make them resident to his files?
thanks.

This is simple.... All your friend has is a simple file that points him in the direction of where the music is.
If he wants the music that you have...
1. Find it on your computer and copy the songs on to the thumb drive.
2. On his SYS. Cut the songs off of the Thumb drive and save them to his computer.
3. Then load the songs up into his choice of players.
:) DONE!

There is defenitley something missing. When you took the music from your computer and put it on the thumb drive, how did you do it?
Did you just drag from the program, or did you actually find where the songs are stored on your computer and copied them over to the thumbdrive?
Also what format are these songs in ? MP3 , ACC , WMA ?

Rock, 1'st i pluged in my thumb drive, 2,nd i looked up my down loads, 3'rd i lassoed a number of tunes. 4'th i sent them to "K" usb drive.
then i took the drive to his computer , plugged it in , then draged the file to his music folder. all i saw when i accesed his music file was "the folder" and when i opened it? it had ALL the music there.they would ALL play ONLY if i left the THUMBDRIVE plugged in. ???
nu? opps, i mean now what?

This explains a lot on how you did your transfer
But again what kind of files are they?
Make sure they are not protected in any way. If they have protection on them you would not be able to transfer them to another computer this way. And would have to make copies of them using a program to take off the protected media part of the file.

Yeah, as ARock sez, make sure they are not protected. When you first mentioned iTunes my initial thought was (cue ominous music) DRM! But then they wouldn't be playing at all - even of the thumb drive right?
It sounds like your friends computer is still pointing to the thumb drive to play the music files. If you are using Windows Media Player you need to click on 'all music' and then you can check where it is playing the files from. Then... um... fix it!
I find Media Player cumbersome to use (ok, ok, I've never bother to figure out the stupid interface, and I couldn't be bloody bothered OK?). My personal preference for playing, sorting, creating playlists etc is Winamp (yeah, I remember haveing version 1.5!!).
