2 PCs ... both win xp pro 32 , were connected on a home lan connection and it worked okay ... i remember that I needed to disable simple file sharing and I found out some post about the 3 different security policy edits ... that guy had it right everything worked right away ... that was more than 8 months ago..
Recently one of the PCs got a clean windows install (same specs) ... done everything to make it like it was before ... workgroup names ... etc... then i didn't find those 3 security policy fixes and messed around a little bit but no succes
now it's like half working >
On my PC which was left unchanged I can access the LAN server on the other PC via LOGIN password requirement only.
The PC that was formated can't acess my LAN server at all .... no permissions ...
The point is that my PC has more space and also to save files over when that one is formated ... so any ideas as to that 3 simple policy edits that i forgot...
Please don't tell me it's my error and the Windows doesn't need policy edits to work .... i dealed with this on an previous PC and know how is windows stupid somethimes ... it may for other but not here as it apparently turns out :(

You reference 2 PC's both with XP Pro and then a LAN server. What are you using for a LAN server?
If you have a folder that is shared on PC1, and that PC (with XP) has passwords associated with the user names it will require that the other machines accessing that shared folder sign in with the user name and password, unless you have matching usernames and passwords. Vista requires any PC that is accessing a shared folder have passwords.
If you are sharing folders on PC 1, then in order for PC 2 to access the folder, permission must be granted on PC1. If when you initially set the permissions on a shared folder on PC 1, and instead of setting it to all users, you specifically listed a user name, and then when you reinstalled XP on PC2 and set up a slightly different user name, you cannot access the shared folder from PC 2.
For example if permission is set to Tom Smith, Tom can't access the information neither can TomSmith or tom smith. If the permission were set to all users, then everyone on PC2 should be able access the information. If you have usernames and passwords set on PC1 with XP Pro, you may have to set up user names and passwords on PC2 as well. I can't say for sure, because my general access is from XP to Vista, not XP to XP.

Thanks ... i'll have a look about that...
Actually it's not lan server , it's just the shared folder as a place .... both have shared folders .... i can access him with pass , he the PC2 can't access mine.
But yes , he doesn't have the same username as before .. lol that's was the problem .. huh i thought it's not that wide system but looks like many things depend on permission and filesharing huh
