My Webroot AntiVirus With AntiSpyware sweep will not end. I tried to look this up and I found nothing. It will work when I do it in safe mode. It takes about 45 minutes-1 hour in safe mode. While I try to sweep in normal mode it takes over 10 hours. I have to turn off the computer by then. But it shows that is is only halfway done. It used to work fine in safe mode. HELP.

are you talking about a virus scan when you reference sweep?

and its taking forever right?

how is the computer running for normal use (no virus scans) is it sluggish or fast?

if its sluggish, either your AV is messed up or you have a nasty bug

try a scan (in safe mode) with these two programs (run one at a time)

malwarebytes

super anti-spyware

Hey Moyer, I have that as well, but took it out. I am just using Webroot Spysweeper and downloaded and installed the free Avast! antiVirus app. Anyway, i have found that it usually takes a bit longer in safe mode to run a scan for whatever reason. It also depends on the amount of stuff on your Hdd. If you have some 300,000 plus files, it will take a while, in normal mode it would take about 45 mins to scan that many files. If I remember correctly, when i had the full Webroot thing in there it did take considerably longer. As was suggested, you can try to uninstall it and then reinstall and update it, then run it and see if does any better. coastie65

I tried to reinstall it and it is still taking too log. It used to take about 45 minutes but now its over 10 hours. Do you think it could be because of a conflict with a new program? I cant find anything on the internet about any conflicts.

Hi, Ok , that't s the latest and there are no issues with Vista that I could find. Are you running any other security apps?

Yea, I have Comodo Personal Firewall and Comodo Memory Firewall. But when I did the scan I turned those both off.

Hi, Sorry about taking so long getting back to this. Been dealing with some other stuff and it kinda, slipped by. Ok, Are you running any other fire walls besides Comodo ? One thing that comes to mind, Try disabling the Comodo memory Firewall and running the scan. In my opinion this may be a little overkill as far as firewalls go ( You can have too many running, which is then a detriment). coastie

OK, as was previously suggested, download and run www.SUPERantispyware.com & www.malwarebytes.org they are both free. Want to check for anything in there that may be causing this and remove it. coastie

i have a question

in normal operation/use, is your computer fast or sluggish?

if sluggish, try this-

download comodo internet security (free) and install it

get it here

disconnect the computer from the internet disable webroot...

restart and update comodo

then run a virus scan and set a timer

you still havent answered my question ( i need it to narrow down possible causes)

does your computer run fast or sluggish with normal use?

and you said you cant download malwarebytes and super anti-spy, (or are you having installation trouble?)

My computer is running fast. I can not download those files because when I click"download" nothing happens. I do not think they will help because I think it has to do with something I recently installed, but I have no idea of what program it could be. Probably one that runs in normal mode, but does not run in safe mode since the scan works in safe mode.
