I read Answer Line about the shutdown command & shortcut in the February edition of PCW and wanted to ask, are there any other useful shortcuts for items such as logoff or for a new e-mail from the desktop for an app like Windows Live Mail?

Yes. You can find all of them by opening the command prompt and typing SHUTDOWN/?.

Is there anything specific we can help make a shortcut for.
By the way, here are some articles I found that involve shortcuts:

I do have the shutdown command any ways, although I would like a logoff, switch users, lock, restart, hibernate, and sleep shortcut on my vista desktop.

Which command is that? Do you mean SHUTDOWN -L? If that's the one, it could be that you left out the space after the word SHUTDOWN.

Are you talking about command prompt or custom shortcut?

Wups, I missed your last post before I posted.

To restart the command is SHUTDOWN -R.
The command for logoff is SHUTDOWN -L.

I'm afraid I don't know about the others that you mentioned.

Those commands are for the command prompt, but if you insert the correct text into a text editor you can create the shortcut for the desktop.

If you're following the instructions in Lincoln Spector's Create a Shutdown Shortcut you simply replace "shutdown -s" with the command of your choice such as SHUTDOWN -L.
