Before any Apple fanboys or Microsoft-haters can post here, I'll just say IE8 at least slows down the trend toward people switching over for other browser alternatives. Whether we'll see Microsoft regain any marketshare in the once again revived browser wars is yet to be seen. Time will tell.
It can't be denied that IE8 is a significant improvement over IE7.

As someone using IE 8 on Windows 7 Beta, this is definitely a leap foward for Windows users. Microsoft is attacking the core weaknesses of previous versions to make a much stronger and consumer friendly IE 8.
I really can't wait for the RC to test further improvements and the release version for Vista. Firefox is getting progressively worse while Internet Explorer is improving. Hopefully the trend will be reversed and IE 8 can hold the line.

But... haven't we heard all of this before?

Of course, this IS a big improvement over IE4 and earlier. After all, IE was for all intents and purposes its self SPYWARE for those versions, as it recorded EVERYTHING you did with IE from the first day you ever booted it. Many products spawned from this to clear that data, not least because it grew forever and began to have negative impacts on system performance.

So, hey I give IE8 a week after it's shipped before something horrible slithers in through it. So nice of all you Vista users to catch those bullets so 'Windoze 7' will ship with a clean record.

They're already going to try to hack IE8 at a hacking contest. How much you want to bet they'll do it?
