Hi Francis and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

Your post is a bit ambiguous. Did the backup complete or did the battery die during the backup process?

No problem at all. I just wanted to make sure we were all on the same page.

Since the backup process did not complete, the DVD is probably useless to your needs. It may be best for you to start the backup process again.

oh! this will be sad for me, because it was a few months ago and after that I did a complete format of my laptop (using the recovery sofware), so I think I lost all.

Anyways, thank you so much for your time mphenterprises. I will keep the DVD, just in case...., maybe later on, somebody can make something in order to solve these kind of problems.

With pleasure. :D

If any other members have a suggestion, I am sure he or she will provide it. Good Luck.

Maybe all it needs is to be finalized. What does your DVD burning program say about the disk? What burning program did you use?

hey number6, hi! thanks.

I really can't remember the sofware, but it's between SONIC (record now) and nero.

Now when I put the DVD and try to open it, the message is: the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable. I think everything is lost.... :( , but I'll keep the disc, just in case.

If you can't remember the burning program, that's not a big deal, but use the one you have now and find out what it says about the disk. Use a burning program to find out if the disk is still burnable, has free space, needs to be finalized, or something else. If you're not sure what burning program to use, try the free CDBurnerXP which works with Vista too.
I believe that it's possible to recover your data. I've done it before in similar situations.

There are some CD/DVD recovery programs that will recover all the data, but it wont fix any data that is corrupted. You can find these programs with google.

Yes, I can recommend Recovery Toolbox for CD Free (which appears to be no longer available from PC World), but it, as well as all most likely, will only recover a file that has or used to have a file structure. If the data is there but without a tree because of the incomplete burning, it won't be able to recover anything.

I think we need to know the status of disk from a burning program.
