I am curious to how these people are being infected with conflicker? take usb's out of the mix.... is there a website downloading it onto computers? is it coming through on emails? I just don't understand how so many people are getitng this virus/worm. I do know that it reproduces itself through networks but most people are not on networks or only on home networks. Fortunatly I have not been infected, yet, and I want it to stay that way.

Is there anything I should avoid i order to steer clear of this virus? where are most people being infected from?

thanks

a worm sorta works like spam... its sent out from a central point(s) and if it can get into the computer it starts the process over again and again... sending fingers out looking for holes in security and spreading to any computer that is on the internet and hasnt been patched

where it has been found to hide-

%Temp%[Random].dll
%System%[Random].tmp
%Temp%[Random].tmp
%Program Files%Internet Explorer[Random].dll
%Program Files%Movie Maker[Random].dll
%All Users Application Data%[Random].dll

the best way to aviod conficker is to switch to linux

Thanks for the Reply. I am still a little confused though. Does it just randomly enter computers or do I have to be on a specific website or download somthing?

i dont think its browser based (but a variant of conficker could be)

its searching for unpatched computers that are connected to the internet, when it finds one and infects it, the infected computer becomes a robot that sends out the worm to other computers on networks/out on the internet

basically it sounds like the worm will find you... and try its exploit (you must keep your computer updated!)

or you can check out linuxwhich is free and is alot more secure than windows

if you like ubuntu but need to use windows too, check out wubi

Does it require any user interaction to install the worm or does it happen without your knowledge?

from what it looks like, the worm is a sbd (silent but deadly)

no user interaction except when it travels via USB drive

I have Windows Vista 64bit SP1 (w/ latest updates) and Norton 2009 so i'm thinking I should be ok. Scary Stuff though... reminds me of the newish Die Hard movie with the Fire Storm virus and such....

:D Hi:

There are a lot better program(s) than Norton, some of them FREE . See the "Retrospective

ProActive" Test Results done Nov 2008 by the INDEPENDENT RESEARCHERS at
