Maybe I'm too stupid to use this site

Some time ago I used to be able to go to the pcworld web site and easily find reviews of software, etc. ...not so much now. I just searched for a review of .pst file repair software and got a list of items that seemed neither to have anything to do with .pst files nor reviews. I did, however, get a screen full of various ads that either dealt with the software of interest (without any reviews) or with other stuff that had nothing to do with what I was looking for. This isn't the first time I've looked for reviews and failed to find any. Can anyone tell me how it's really done? (or has pcworld become so ad oriented that it's no longer of much use?

Hi DCoburn, and welcome to PCWorld Community.
Yeah, things have changed a lot within the PCWorld Website and unfortunately we've been getting many complaints about the same thing.
This forum is closely watched by our Admins and I'm sure one of them will pop in here and try to answer your concern accordingly.

I've never heard of those two sites. I'll give them a try. I am looking for the best (and least expensive) software to fix a broken outlook .pst file so have been searching for reviews of same...without much success.
RE: Google. I don't trust them at all. I expect they will greatly misuse their power in the very near future in collusion with certain elements in the current government. Also, Google is getting less and less useful since so many of the same sites appear at the top of each page of each search...all it takes is money, I guess.
Thanks,
dcoburn

I did some looking around on PC World and couldn't find anything relevant, but I did a quick web search and found this on the How-To Geek:
h2. Fix Your Broken Outlook Personal Folders (PST) File
Let us know if this is what you're looking for and if it works.

There is also the privacy policy that is not found before you sign up. Perhaps PC World is going to act in concert with Google to take over the world!!
Sarcasm meter: 9.5/10.
I'm being serious about not finding the privacy policy before you register, I have seen it now I have registered, I'm too trusting...

I tried Scanpst.exe but it didn't fix the problem. Then I tried to find some other stuff without too much success so I decided to purchase a PST file fixer that sounded good. I bought the Stellar Phoenix one at $120....because it has a 30 day guarantee. It didn't help either. After passing several emails back and forth with their tech support (which is very prompt in answering) they decided that the problem was not with the database and suggested that I re-install Outlook. They also said that I shouldn't use the original PST file. I asked them why not use it if the problem wasn't with the file. I also asked if they knew of anyway I could transfer my old PST file to a new one. They just wrote back and said they'd work on an answer for me. I love computers!!
