How do the member rankings work here? In otherwords how many posts/points does one need in order to move from new member & etc?

Thanks.

Hi gfhq94a. Please note that the General Talk Community is not for technical questions. It is intended to be a place for PCWorld members to share and discuss off-topic items, and just generally have fun. For further guidelines, please refer to this Discussion thread. I have moved this Discussion into the PCWorld Website Community.

Here is a document that should answer your question about the points system: {document:id=1070}.

Do you know if that system has changed at all, mph? I notice that you have 10,298 posts and only 9,156 points and you have created many documents and several blogs. You should have many more points than posts if that document is correct.

OFF TOPIC: Have you been over to the people section recently? All of the members are missing. No problem, just wondering if you had seen that.

Hi Number. Very good question. Yeah, the numbers are way off. I came to PCWorld in February 2007. The new forum, with the new points system, started in September 2007.

Yes, I have seen that. I believe Bill, the PCWorld Community Technician, is aware of the situation. There have been several issues within the current forum since its inception. I know it has been a pain in Bill's side. :D

The points are a more recent thing when they switched to the new forum software. The new forum software recognized that many "old timers" has a lot of posts, but those posts did not get "retroactive" points. Thus, if you had a member who had 1000 posts when the new software came online, that member was still started at 0 points...same as a member who join that same day the software came online and who had 0 posts.

Aye, that makes much more sense.
