I made a image of my hard drive to an external drive using Drive Image XML. I'm wondering how I would go about restoring that image from the external drive if my PC became unbootable?(therefore I couldn't use the drive image xml software) Thanks.

When you say you made an image, do you mean you used the cloning function or did you use the more traditional backup function?

If the former, then if you computer is capable of booting off an external USB drive (I am assuming the external drive you mentioned it USB), then you should be able to boot off the external drive as the cloning process will make an EXACT duplicate of the drive.

If your computer cannot boot of an external drive thus making use of a clone OR you did the more traditional backup, you can boot off the Drive Image CD/DVD and then use Drive Image to restore the backup. If you bought the download version (i.e. did not get a CD/DVD), then you can make a bootable CD/DVD...I believe.

Thanks for the suggestions but I think i figured out my own answer. :) If you use the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows (which is an awesome tool!) then you can use the Drive Image XML software from inside that to do the restoring...

Likely similar to booting from the Drive Image XML disk itself.
