It's a great first step. However, you cannot read magazines, newspapers or similar publications with Kindle for iPhone. Only their e-books. To me that's a HUGE drawback since I want to read particular magazine subscriptions but I don't want to buy a Kindle to do so. For now I'll stick with Audible and let someone read the book to me ... I can do that even while I am driving! Here's hoping they take the next step and make the product even more useful.

I think some folks are missing the point here. As an owner of both Kindle and iPhone, this app is great. The iPhone is not designed nor does it lend itself to long form reading. The Kindle is meant to do just that. If you really think you can laze around on a Sunday afternoon and spend hours staring into your tiny, backlit iPhone, you are wrong. The true beauty of this app lies in the fact that, if you have a few minutes to kill on the subway or standing in line somewhere, you can stay in sync with your furthest read point on Kindle and get in some reading time. It's wonderful to go back and forth. But, again, if folks think that they can avoid getting a Kindle to do long form reading on iPhone, I beg to differ.
