Ok I'll try that but didn't you say that if the 4 pin connector is unplugged, the boot process should start and give me an error message? I do have an old PC
that has a working hard drive but I'm not sure if it would be compatible with the PC I'm working on. I thought I could try swapping out the hard drive?

You are very welcome. I also learned something. I actually thought with that plug unplugged, it would start to boot but wouldn't continue. It wasn't until I unplugged mine that I was able to duplicate the problem. I'm sure your mother will be glad to get her machine back and we all learned a little. That makes it a good day.
