Hello,

Whenever I try to goto NBC.com it always brings me to their mobile page. It does this in Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox. How can I get to the normal site?

Thanks.

Two questions - how are you connecting to NBC.com. Are you using a bookmark/favorite, or are you entering the address manually?

When you are at the site, what is the URL listed in the address block at the top of your browser window.

I am just manually typing www.nbc.com into my browser. The URL that appears is m.nbc.com.

Okay, try these two options. When it comes up, go up to the address block and delete the "m." in front of nbc.com and hit enter. If that works, then bookmark/mark as favorite that main page, then use the bookmark/favorite from then on.
Or, if it does not work, open Google or another search engine and enter nbc.com in their search, then click on the response that is only nbc.com. If that is where you want to be, mark it and use that shortcut from then on.

I already tried those - the 'm' keeps reappearing. It used to work in Firefox, but recently I reinstalled Vista because my hard drive died. Now it doesn't even work in FireFox.

While it might be a long shot, have you tried clearing out the browser cache and cookies? It is possible that an nbc.com cookie is there telling the NBC site that you "want" the mobile version.

Here are some NBC links to try

http://www.nbc.com/T...eason-5/698505/ its just the office video I don't know if they have a mobile version to see if its anything beyond the homepage.

another random nbc link if you want to try it http://www.nbc.com/T...e/dwights-blog/

I agree with Smax clearing your cookies cache/private files etc might help.

Nope, none of those things worked. This is the only computer on my network that does this, so I'm not thinking that it's associated with my outside IP. Any other ideas?

The cookies would not be an IP issues, but related to file on THAT specific computer. But, it does not matter as that did not seem to help.

Hmmm...strange. I am just a wee bit baffled at this point.

The only thing that I think to try at this point is to try another browser such as Safari or Opera. Since it is happening in Firefox AND IE, it seems to be something related to the computer, not browser, but it might be worth checking with one more browser to see if it does that same thing.

You might also try browsing through or posting to NBC's community here:

(assuming you don't get nailed by the mobile crap with that link :D )

I didn't realize until a little later, but apparently the problem is solved now in Firefox after the cleanup there. However, I would like to be able to use IE if it's possible - so I'm still open to different ideas. This also happened before I just reinstalled Vista Ultimate x64.

That tends to make me suspect cookies again. Just to cross the Ts and dot the Is, you did clear out all the cookies for IE, correct?

Yep, I also cleared them from Firefox, but that was later. I cleared them from IE again after it worked in Firefox with no luck. When I installed Firefox I chose to have it import settings from IE, so there must still be something there that doesn't want to let go.

At the moment, the only thing that I can think to try would be to try another different browser to see if we get the same thing. Maybe Safari.

But, I shall think on it some more and see if a lovely brick falls on my head and rattles loose a brillant thought. :D

Hi compucv. Okay, I think the pieces are coming together. Even though the issue is resolved in Firefox, Internet Explorer has the settings of Firefox. Since there was an issue within Firefox, that issue may have imported into Internet Explorer. It is a stretch but nothing about this issue screams simple.

My suggestion, run a third party cookie cleaner such as CCleaner which is available here. Once downloaded and installed, open the application and do some settings changes:

- Click on Options -> Settings

- Change the Secure Deletion option to either "Simple Overwrite" or "DOD 5220.22-M"

- Click on the Advanced button and remove the check mark from, "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"

- When ready, click on the Cleaner button and then click Run Cleaner

- Once the application is complete, close the application and restart the computer

Um...other way around...Firefox was pulling settings from IE...in other words, Firefox had the settings of IE. There should be no "importing" into IE as the process was the other way, I believe.
