Well, it's happening again! A couple of days ago I was trying to wish Snorg a happy birthday in the Birthday thread and my Internet Explorer kept crashing. So, I started a thread in the PCW Website forum. I did a couple of things following Tech4Me's suggestions and I thought the problem was fixed.

Today I've answered exactly 3 posts, and every time I submitted my answer, my Internet Explorer has crashed!!! Then, when I was about to start this thread, it crashed again!!! THAT'S EXACTLY 4 TIMES that it crashed in about 5 minutes.

I have all my protection up to date, I've run scans of everything I have: Spysweeper, Trend MicroAV, MBAM and SAS, and the results come out fine. I have the latest Java and the latest Abode Reader. I downgraded the Adobe Flash Player from v10 to v9.

Im very frustrated right about now X-( this only happens when I'm here at PCW!! I have absolutely no problems when I go to any other website.

Any suggestions or ideas as to why that might be happening when I'm here? :( grrrrrr

It could be that IE 8 just doesn't like THIS site. There many be some bugs needing fixed in IE.

Hey techie, Adama is running IE7. The problems I was having with this site running IE7, seem to have disappeared since switching to IE8.

:^0 . I don't know what her problems could be. She said it was only with PCWorld and no other site. I find that pretty strange and nothing pops at the moment.

Adama, I had a buddy call me tonight who was having a very similar problem; IE kept crashing anytime he tried to download something from a particular site. I had him disable third-party extension, and that took care of his problem. He is in Missouri, I'm in IL, so I wasn't in front of the computer, and he had to stand outside in the rain to get cellphone reception, so he didn't want to talk long after his problem was resolved, but I suspect it was an issue with a BHO or some kind of toolbar he had installed. I don't know if your issue is related, but it's worth a shot. Click on Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions," then restart IE. If that takes care of the problem, you'll be able to narrow down which extension is causing the problem and update or remove it. Like I said, your problem may be totally different, but it's worth a try.

Hey sweetie !!

I was also having problems when I was using IE7 on this site. This is why we are probably

having an software upgrade. I am now using (temporarily) IE8 and to tell you the truth , it's not

bad at all. Allot faster and doesn't crash anymore. Two suggestions , first , try to disable IE7Pro,

and second , if you have WOT (Web Of Trust) add-on for IE then, there is a new version .

Download W.O.T. for IE . Just install over old version.

I had reported this error with WOT and Sami at WOT asked mre to download newer version

and it took care of my problem. As for IE7Pro , I have it installed in IE8 and it does work just

fine but maybe that's your problem. There is a new version of this too.

Download IE7PRO for IE . But please , do update to IE8. It's worth it.

Hi Adama! I too was having some issues, only with PCWorld under IE7. As reported by others, these problems have vanished under IE8. However, something you may want to try is to reset the IE (7 or 8) to factory defaults?

Also I find that CCleaner works wonder, and I use it multiple times a day ad-hoc fashion. In addition, if there is a file corruption somewhere in your files system chkdsk usually fixes things. What I've seen happen a few times, are some java created tempfiles get 'corrupted' and must be rationalized by chkdsk.

Last perhaps would be to update java since you've installed multiple programs, which may require java. Java is exactly like the DLL Hell of years ago, each program installing its own needed version of Java it appears... Since Microsoft doesn't support Java, Sun does it for them. So the latest java is never a problem, except with poorly written programs. But that's not Java's fault.

Good luck!

Don't need to pull your hair out...Do you have all MS updates....? Here is the absolute solution......IMO..
Update to IE8 ....

www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx

I'm still using IE7 ...but have problem with Pcw site though....

Another update you need to try if you like....this will fix the long delay (That causes pc to freeze or crash) on some high secured sites.

Hi SnyperTodd,

Thanks for your comment. I'm glad your buddy was able to fix his problems.

I don't really have any BHOs (Browser Helper Object.) So I don't think that would be my problem.

Thanks again. :D

Bonjour, mon ami! How are you, darling? As always, your info is really helpful.

I uninstalled IE7 Pro (I already had the latest version, 2.4.5) Then I went ahead and downloaded Internet Explorer 8 (from Tech's link) and all went well. < knock on wood >

So here I am, I've answered 2 posts and so far no crashes!!! YAY!!! Jumps up and down!!! :^0

Now about IE7 Pro =

After I downloaded the new Explorer 8 I went to the IE7 Pro website and downloaded the latest version again. It installed ok, but I got a msg from SpySweeper about it trying to install a BHO browser bar, so I denied it. And then, my IE7 Pro icon was nowhere to be found... you know, how it shows up on the bottom right of the screen? well, it wasn't there.

So, I uninstalled it again and I'll wait to see what suggestion you have for me on that. ok? OK!

Merci merci, mon ami. :x

Hi WinTard,

Thanks so much for your comment. You know? I had NO idea that so many people were having problems with IE7 and PCW website!! I felt like the lone wolf out there, not being able to access any of the threads here. It was really, really frustrating.

Anywway, as you can see from my answer to Flashorn, I've installed Explorer 8 and... so far, so good. :) < knock on wood again! >

Thanks again. :D

Hi sweetheart,

LOL You always make me laugh... yeah, I was to the point of pulling my hear out! LOL :D

Thank you so much for your support. And, for the link to the MSFT Explorer 8 download. I downloaded and so far it's working really well. It's really, really fast!

I had to restart my laptop, and when I opened IE, it only took about 12 seconds to open everything up!!!! What an improvement!!! It used to take me about 2 mins for IE to upload and to get my Yahoo homepage to load up... sometimes it would take even longer.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your great help!! :x :x

I'll see if things continue ok while being here at PCW, and then I'll be ready to tag this thread as "answered." :D

Hey Adama, I'm usually one of the last to jump on Micro$oft's latest and greatest ( SP3 for instance ). IE8 seems to be pretty good so far, at least I've had no problems. The Windows Live Messenger stuff is a nother thing, as I'm not too sure of that. I think you'll find IE8 to your likeing.

They were small nitpicking type things, and didn't really translate to a problem with the site per se. It appears that whatever the issue, IE8, has taken care of it.
