E-mail communicating with my daughter is an incongruous mess. I can ask her for bank address to which I may send her $1,000,000 & she will eventually reply with her current weather, what they had for dinner last nite, or an interesting treatise on gov't etc but no routing address for her money??? <Of course an exaggeration but a typical case>
My solution is to structure E-mails like Robert's Rules of Order does for meetings, in that we segregate "Old business" & "New business". The mechanics for which:
1. Bring up my E-mail & hit 'Reply'. This puts the text of my E-mail at the bottom of her reply.
2. "Old business" - Where ever I have asked a question or made a point she should comment on, she edits (types into) my text with her response. Ideally in a different font & color so it stands out. Most people are not aware one can do that; a friend enlightened me. After all old business is noted ..........................
3. "New business" - is entered at the top section of her answering E-mail where one normally types.
Now we have truly effective wonderful efficient communication with no dangling subjects. Her response, "Boring dad." Anyway I thought I would share it with other 'adults' who might appreciate the technique.
