Hi no56mad and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

The application media monkey does not store the music. Your music is stored on your computer and accessed by Media Monkey.

To answer your question, yes, the process is very easy. The first questions I have for you is what Operating System are you using and what burning application do you have?

I do not use Ashampoo so I cannot speak on how good the application is. However, I know you should have no problem using that application to burn your music to DVDs. Now, please note that, based on the size of the music files and the amount of files you have, you will probably use about 3 DVDs.

I presume you have the latest version of Ashampoo. I will download a copy and provide you with some steps. If anyone else already has this application and can help, please chime in.

Okay, the following will be a step by step process on how to use Ashampoo to burn a DVD of all of your music. There are ten screen shots. Click on any of them to enlarge the image.

Before we begin, please keep in mind that files such as .mp3, .wav, and .flac are data files. The mistake that many people make is to assume that since they are trying to burn music, they should select an audio CD/DVD burn. That is not correct. The difference is that an audio CDs are based on time, not size. For example, an Audio CD can hold about 17 songs. A data CD can hold about 150-160 songs, depending on the size of each track.

It appears that Ashampoo has a separate section called "Create a MP3 CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Disc." This helps prevent any issues related to not being able to fit all the songs you want on a particular CD or DVD.

- Open Ashampoo Burning Studio

- Select Burn Files and Folders -> Create a New CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Disc

Posted Image

- Click on Add in the upper right hand corner of the screen (As a side note, you may be able to simply drag and drop the tracks from Windows Explorer into Ashampoo.)

Posted Image

- Drill down to the folder where your music is saved. That may be the My Music subfolder under the My Documents folder.

- Select the tracks you want to be included in this first burn. You can add multiple tracks at a time.

- As each track is add, Ashampoo will automatically indicate how much space will be used on the DVD. Also, if you look in the lower right hand corner, you will see a small box entitled, "Fits on:" This will indicate what media you should use to store the current collection of tracks. In this example, you see that there is just under 3GBs of data in this current burn and, according to Ashampoo's indicator, I cannot use a CD to store this current burn. I should use a DVD. Since I do not have a Blu-Ray drive, that option is greyed out.

Posted Image

- After adding the tracks you want, click Finish

- Click Next in the lower right hand corner of the screen

Posted Image

- Ashampoo will prompt you to insert the necessary media. In this example, I already have a DVD-R disc in the drive.

Posted Image

- Click Write DVD

Posted Image

Please note that there are options to choose before you select burn. However, those are things that you can choose on your own.

- During the writing process, Ashampoo will give you a graphical representation of what is happening

Posted Image

- Once the burn is complete, Ashampoo will indicate that everything completed successfully and then it will eject your disc

- At this point, I would HIGHLY suggest you verify the DVD. To do this, simply click on Verify the DVD when Ashampoo goes back to the selection screen. Since the DVD was already ejected, simply put the DVD back into the tray and close the tray.

- Again, Ashampoo will give you a graphical representation of what is happening

Posted Image

- Once the verification is completed, you will get a confirmation that looks like this

Posted Image

- Click Exit to close the application

Hey MPH !!

i must commend you on this tutorial . It's well done and very easy to follow.

I hope you will think of making a WikiDoc. out of it.

There could be another possibility to burn his / her songs to DVD and

that would be , if the possibility exist , to burn a Dual Layer DVD. Since

you are burning it as a Data CD , I think you could also have the possibility

to add to the DVD at a later date if the DVD is not full . Am I right ?

Hi Flashorn. Thank you very much. Yeah, I thought about it. I may just do that. :D I normally do not like creating Documents on specific applications. I would then have to create Documents for all similar applications, in this case Nero and Roxio jump to mind.

Yes, Dual Layer DVD burning is possible; however, there may be a drawback to that...with the information provided, we have no way of knowing if the DVD drive is a dual layer drive. I do not have enough experience with Dual Layer DVDs to give a definitive answer but I believe the drive has to recognize a Dual Layer DVD. If a Dual Layer DVD is put into an optical drive that does not recognize such a format, Ashampoo may not recognize that a DVD has been inserted. Again, I do not have a full understanding of Dual Layer DVDs and DVD Drives to qualify this statement but I am pretty sure.

All things being equal, absolutely no56mad could inserted a Dual Layer DVD and burn up to 8.5GBs of data on that DVD.

With pleasure. I can definitely understand your situation.

The steps follow the exact process I used your burn a DVD. If you have any problems, please post and let us know.

Yes, the drive must support DL disks. Most currently available drives include DL support, but if poster has an older drive, then it may not.

In addition, I am pretty sure that the burning program must support DL disks, but I am assuming that most, if not all, currently available burning programs will support DL.

Hi SMax. Yes, you are correct. Most, if not all, major burning applications support DVD+/-R DL Discs. In this case, Ashampoo does (it is even referenced in one of the screen shots). I personally use Nero and I know it does. I do not have a Dual Layer Disc to see if Windows Vista recognizes it.
